Want Adobe Flash 10.1 (Non-Beta)? Read this!

So, you have Froyo. Maybe you have Flash 10.1 Beta 3. But what about Flash 10.1 Official Release? How do you go about getting it? Well, now you can easily get it! Just follow these instructions.

First, go to AppBrain - the best Android apps and games on the Android market and sign in with your google account info. Make sure you use the exact same google account as you did on your phone.

Second, download this to your phone:
AppBrain App Market

Third, download this to your phone:
Fast Web Installer

Make sure you run both apps. For the appbrain app, open the app, click "manage my apps", then click sync with appbrain". For the Fast Web Installer, simply run it and click the button to enable it.

Finally, go here to view the appbrain page for Adobe Flash 10.1: Flash Player 10.1 - Android app on AppBrain. As long as you have sync'd your apps with app brain and enabled the fast web installer, you simply have to click on install and it will be sent straight to your phone!

Enjoy!

P.S. Fast Web Installer allows you to quickly and easily install free apps straight from the web! I have used it for a few live wallpapers that don't show in the market on my device, but show in appbrain. It works flawlessly.

Granted setup may take a minute or two, but once this is all set up, you can simply click install on any free app on appbrain and it is downloaded and installed to your phone without any other user input. There is no need to go to downloads, enable install from non market sources, etc.

P.S. I replied to your other post in the other thread.

I don't know man.. that original post sounds EXTREMELY suspicious to me. Log into some random website with your Google credentials!!! DING DING DING ALARM! That sounds bad. Then install some software to your phone to get something else you want DING DING WARNING #2. I don't like it at all. The whole thing sounds fishy. Or should I say "phishy".

Choices are good. I've never gone the appbrain route just because I'm too lazy to set it all up...

I would rather not install a bunch of crap to enable me to more quickly install a bunch of other crap I don't need.

Just using apk files works fine. I just used Chrome to Phone to throw the MediaFire link of the Flash apk to my phone. http://www.mediafire.com/?tn7q3335ltf5aag

If you don't have Chrome to Phone or don't want to set it up, here's the QR Code.

Honestly, the first post sounds like a phishing scheme.

I was thinking the same thing.

Cool, I figured after it was released for the Nexus One (officially), it would immediately get extracted and shared for other 2.2 users to enjoy. I don't understand why they're restricting it for Nexus One users to see in the market in the first place. They should just release it for everyone to see/download in the stock market and put a huge notice on it that it only works on 2.2.

So do you all notice any difference in performance whatsoever between this and the v.3 beta? I'm not expecting much, but it will be nice to see it fix going to full screen easier and more optimized playback.

Actually, appbrain.com is not a random website. It is one of the best and a lot of people have been using it. Just search this androidforums.com for appbrain and you will see that it is widely used and not no one has had issues with it.

Second, When you sign in with your google account, you are signing into google itself and not appbrain. It's the same as being able to use your facebook credentials to sign into third part sites. The third party sites never (again, that's NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER) even see your sign-in info. Once google verifies your credentials, they then send confirmation to the third party site that shows that you have verified your info.

Third, if you don't feel comfortable doing this, then don't. I'm not twisting your arm. If you want to see for yourself, just go to the http://appbrain.com and click login. Watch as the browser is directed to www.google.com to be signed in. I would post a direct link to the sign-in page to show that even google states that your email address is the only thing shared with appbrain, but you would just claim that i am trying to steal your credentials again.

Anyways, do what you want with the information I have given you. I have nothing to do with appbrain and was simply trying to help others.

P.S. I will continue to use appbrain because I have no problems with the way they do things. Of course I also fully understand how it all works because I am a web developer and actually implement things like this every day.

Also, read this: http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html straight from google about openID!

It's completely non-scientific, but it looks snappier on the same phone with no other change vs. 15 minutes earlier. That's just browsing a couple of web sites, not heavy Flash games or anything. I'd expect it to be quicker; every software product I've ever shipped (many) has always been faster than beta -- beta always has debug code, non-optimized compiler options, bugs, etc., that get dealt with for the final release. I can't remember ANY product not getting faster for FCS.

Agreed -- I think appbrain is legit, just too much work...

Yeah, after just trying it out at some news site, it definitely seems more responsive to button presses like when trying to go full screen. In the beta, I would have to hit the friggin button (that looks completely different and better now) at least 5-6 times for it to respond. So I'm glad they fixed that. Playback was still a bit choppy at some parts, but that's understandable if it's not optimized for mobile playback in the first place.

I have actually seen more than a couple apps perform worse and lose functionality after officially released compared to the beta releases beforehand. I can see it happening though when you just have an individual developer doing everything with the software instead of a huge team and QA process like Adobe.

Appbrain might be fine, I'm not familiar with it and I've never tried it. I was just going on the wording of your original post. I didn't know it was an official google account login. It just sounded very suspicious to me.

Either way I would still prefer to download the file myself. I hate the idea of 3rd party software installing stuff to my phone. Maybe I'm paranoid or old-fashioned.. I just don't like the idea of it.

EDIT: On another topic.. I did download the new Flash APK and I have to say there is a definitely improvement. Flash is faster and smoother and more usable. There were a few flash games I couldn't use before because something in the interface was messed up. Now I can play those same games. Granted.. some of them are a bit slow but others have made the step from unplayable to playable after this update. So far it looks good!

You know.. in general I think people are not careful enough on the Internet with their personal information... not the other way around. So I wouldn't go critisizing people for being a little bit cautious. I personally know a handful of people who have had their identity stolen and it took months to recover from it. Sorry if I spoke too quickly about appbrain, but I didn't know whether or not it used the official Google login or not. I know how it works and I know it's safe.. Even if it is safe.. I still wouldn't use it when I can download the file directly.

New version, ergo better.

It's struggling with comedycentral's web site. I love checking out Tosh.0's web page but my Droid with the newest Flash apk file posted in this thread is struggling to run the videos on the site. either the videos are choppy and don't keep up with the audio or the browser crashes altogether. Hopefully this apk isnt the official version or else I guess that means the capabilities of flash on the phone are more limited than I had hoped

My understanding is that this version of Flash is optimized for the Nexus One's processor, which is why it doesn't show up in the Market for Droid users (or anyone else, presumably.) I could be completely off-base and this is as good as it gets, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Droid-optimized version launching in the near future.

Also, I'd like to throw my +1 at AppBrain and FastWebInstaller. The "Hot Apps" lists are a great way to find cool (or at least popular) new apps.

Are you sure that Adobe plans to release a version of Flash optimized for each processor/phone? I kind of think that's unlikely, it would make their support folks cringe... I have a strong suspicion that unless there's a major difference between the platforms they plan to release one version for Android. We'll see what hits the Market when it goes live and compare it to this kit and see, I guess...

+1 on App brain.
Marvin, I totally understand your hesitation. I have been on a few forums where some guy posts an obvious phishing scheme and you are thinking, "Hah! Who could be so dumb...?" then fellow forum members start creating a lot of threads in all CAPS about getting screwed.
Apparently the "could be so dumb" all too often.

App brain is a really great product. I hate extra steps so I very reluctantly installed it last week (it is very very light) and began running it and I think it is vastly superior from an ease/simplicity standpoint in ways that are difficult to explain. I am sure my GF will be 10X more likely to start trying random apps once I get App Brain on her Droid.

I think I WILL wait on a Flash a bit longer personally. I am stoked about it though.
