Root literally in process of rooting, help

Im going off of the sticky "guide to rooting 2.2" im using windows and im at step 26 of trying to install the update.zip file. But the phone keeps sayin I: cant open sdcard update.zip, then it aborts installation.

i downloaded the FG22 link and put that directly into my root. renamed it update.zip(even tho its a rar file) and it aborts installation. Tried to make the file open as zipped folder instead of rar file but same result.

Someone help me out.. im sittin here with a phone that is not programmed. and its passed my bedtime. help me out asap phandroidians

How is it a rar file? When I downloaded it its a zip. this is the file you downloaded right? http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/FRG22-Release.zip Also what's the error message say exactly? Sometimes you might need to redownload the zip file, sometimes it errors the signature.

I use that lnk and it saves as a winrar.zip file. SHould be correct right?

At the install screen i get:
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update packag...
E: cant open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
installation aborted

winrar.zip?? Something else is wrong, I just downloaded that link and it saved it as FRG22-Release.zip. The file should be about 74.7MB in size. What browser are you using?

Yes, it saves as FRG22-Release.zip , which is a winrar zip archive.

I see, ok and then just changing the name to update.zip gave you the error? Try it again with the new download and see if that works.

Tried it again, put it in the root of my phones sd. tried to install and it gave that same bs i wrote above. wtf. what am i supposed to do now. I've been debating on rooting for this long.. now its givin me a issue. smh. I should have waited for tomorrow. I got to wake early in the am for work tomorrow too

Have you tried loading the FRG01 rom? If you can get that to load atleast you'll have root and 2.2. You can then load up FRG22 later.

He just named it update and nothing else..

Make sure when you rename the file you only typed in update and not update.zip which will actually turn the file into update.zip.zip

smh.. and this is what I did.

the download started... but then all of a sudden i get black screen. I cant seem to turn on the phone now.

wow. This has turned into a damn nightmare. I can't power on my phone. Battery pull, usb, no usb. Tried to hold x while turning on, nothing.

edit: Just tried holding up +power button. The bootloader screen popped up flashing battery low, cannot program. I hope this means what it says, not that i bricked my phone....

Alright calm down. Reboot into the bootloader and see if you can mount the SD card again. Change the name of the update.zip file to just "update". Unmount and try to install again. That should clear up the problem.

yea i had to regroup for a sec. I shouldnt have done this procedure this late and this tired. But anyways.. after finally getting bootloader screen to show. I unplugged from the cpu and used the wall charger. As soon as i plugged in the wall charger..the phone goes to the droid main menu. I tried to install the frg22 and boom..it worked. (the batt was les than 10% so that's why it shut down.

Im done for tonight.. thanks for the help tonight y'all. Hopefully this is the beginning of good times for me and my droid!
