Can't read Chinese SMS with HTC Desire??

I just got my HTC Desire yesterday (my 1st smartphone) but I can't read Chinese SMS. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thank you in advance.

I already checked with HTC support and below it's their reply:

"I can understand the frustration with not having the Chinese be compatible with Chinese. Unfortunately, this version with Telus is an English/French only device. If you want Chinese on the device you will need to search for a 3rd Party Application on the Market. We do not get trained in the Applications so we do not support them and you will need to do some research for them. You can Google the Chinese Language Pack as well, but again we cannot support this 3rd Party Programming and I advise to research before downloading to your device."

I don't think that's the problem, as if the SMS was sent in Chinese, unless your Desire turned into an SMS translator, then it would arrive in Chinese not English.

All I can suggest is downloading a chinese language pack from the market, if there are any, or head over to XDA devs to see if they have come up with anything.

If a phone does not support chinese, you end up with a load of little squares or total jiberish.

I believe you can add support for Chinese with this:

Google Pinyin IME - Cyrket

All they are saying is that they won't *support* 3rd party apps, which isn't really any different from them refusing to help you if you encounter an issue using the dolphin browser over the stock one.

That's odd, I just sent myself a chinese sms, it came back in chinese!!
i've got a cantonese keyboard installed.

Hi Yenzehn, I already downloaded Google Pinyin & Hanwriting, which let me input Chinese in SMS.

The most weird thing is my Desire does show my outgoing Chinese SMS. However, I see all alpha & code for incoming Chinese SMS from my friends.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

I have installed Google Pinyin and can send SMS Text in Chinese. I see it as outgoing text in Chinese. But it NEVER arrives at the other phone. I mixed the text with both Chinese and regular English characters. And only the English characters come through. Very puzzling.

P.S. The Receiving phone is on the Sprint Network (Samsung Moment). I have an HTC Evo.

Does the other phone have a chinese text pack installed - if it doesn't, then it's not going to show the Chinese characters.
