"Missed" Call app breaks in 2.2

Was a fan of this app. Used it to give me custom color LED (purple) and sound for a call that was missed. As well, for calendar services I used it to flash a custom color LED (blue) and play a sound. Essentially, you could override the system settings and pickup where it left off.

Well, as of 2.2 this app is busted. The dev claims to have made a more 2.2 friendly versions.. but its busted. No more color LED selections - stock Droid green and green only - and the Calendar notifications are 100% busted. A missed notification call works in that you can get your custom sound, but only green LED (which is already the stock color for like 3-4 other notification). But like I said.. nothing for calendar.

So.. anyone have any tips for replacements in 2.2.

I found one - Calendar Notification - and it CAN do colored LED (I used blue) and a custom tone that broke in Missed Call. And I still use Missed Call for missed calls, but hate the green LED. Would love to find 1 app to do it all, hate having 2 apps - 1 of which is busted.

oh.... and BTW, never figured out why the dev always says the gMail notification is not possible. I have used an app - and they have a 2.2 version that works perfect - called gMail Notifier.

I have emailed the dev in the past, with some feedback, and recently with this "Missed Call for Android 2.x", and never once heard back. plus, the version before this that worked on 2.01-2.1 was never 1 time updated IIRC.

so.. I do not hold out much hope :(

Plus... it does seem like the dev spreads some FUD like saying "LED notifications for Missed Calls are not possible in Android "Froyo" 2.2." when in both gMail Notifier and Calendar Notifier and Handcent - LED choices are possible in 2.2. Plus, when he says that you cannot notify for gMail, well, I already proved that not true.

Lock-N-Load, this may not be the best answer for everyone in this forum, but being rooted there are a few ROM's out that feature this functionality as part of the rom itself (I believe).

So if it s big deal, or something you want to switch over there is that option (I think sapphire, and the newer CM Nightlies have it)

One can hope that someone can just make an app to work with FroYo but, I don't know...

I have been able to get the custom LED color (I use orange) for a missed call, but nothing for the calendar. So, I will take the LED notification for a missed call at least. It is too bad about the Calendar though...

I forced the 2.2 update last week on my Droid...

Being that the OP is rooted, maybe it a variance in the FRG01B and FRG22?

MC doesn't do gMail, or eMail, so not sure how you claim to be getting that as part of MC???

I am also 2.2 rooted, and I get missed call sound and LED but not the LED I selected.

heck, the market download fot his app even says "LED notifications for missed calls are not possible in Android "Froyo" 2.2" - which other apps can do, like Tasker, but his can't. so not sure how your getting color as well?

BTW, what version of MC? the newest one of like 0.9.2 called "missed call for android"? What ROM are you using?

For those uisng Tasker, I found a possible soultion for missed calls, but not calendar event notices.

for missed calls, I set a Missed Call action to (1) trigger a Notify Sound (2) wait 2 second (3) trigger a Notify LED and both use the same "title" and icon so there is only 1 notification in the notification drop down from Tasker (as opposed to 2 if you do not use the same "title"). It is a bummer as you must have a "title" show up in the notification bar.. but we know the system already does that so there will be 2 then in the end - Tasker's and the systems. that sucks and not way to not have the Tasker one it seems. But if the Missed Call app just totally dies - as it has gotten no updates since MAY!! - then this will work.

Lock-N-Load, I've been following all of your posts on this for the past week or so - You seem to have done the most research (or at least posted about it), so THANKS!

I've been trying all of your suggestions (and the suggestions of others) and I found a great solution for missed calls. The app called "Blink". it doesn't have the greatest reviews, but it works for missed calls on my unrooted 2.2 Droid. No extra notification or anything like that - Just a straight up custom-colored LED to go with my stock notification of a missed call.

I only downloaded Blink 5 minutes ago so I still need to play with it and some other notifications, but I guess I got a little overexcited and wanted to post here.

yeah, I tried that Blink and did not get good results personally. I got double notifications AND when I tested the alert it worked but when I had my chick call me to test it, the alert sound fired BUT no custom LED color. So it was like in testing it worked, but in real life it failed and the stock green LED fired.

Sorry, man. This is so odd how so many peoples' phones are implementing (or NOT implementing) these apps so differently.

so a custom color LED DID work for you when you get a real live call?

Yup. I set the LED to red for a missed call and it works. I just 2.2 OTA this morning and I've been messing with the phone all day and done a number of power cycles and it's still working so far.

BTW, how are you testing, having someone call you?

I'm calling my cell phone from my deskphone at work. (I don't trust those in-app "test" buttons.)

did you removed Missed Call app or just disable it?

i removed it but i'm considering reinstalling it and just not setting it up...just in case the dev updates it for 2.2, i'll get an auto-update notification, ya know? (fwiw, i also tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it to see if that would work and it didn't.) It's a shame - That was such a great app, and so essential to a lot of us...I just don't know wtf happened to the dev.

Did you ever find a solution for the calendar notification LED? I only use custom LED's for missed calls and for calendar notifications and I'm still searching for a good calendar LED app. (Handcent takes care of a custom color for texts/mms and I leave all of my emails & gchats as green.) Calendar notifier doesn't work the way I'd like it to, but it's better than nothing, I suppose. This might sound a little crazy, but I've actually been thinking of contacting some of my favorite devs to come up with an LED app...

I kept it for the exact same reason HOPING 1 day he will surface, but the last update was May and I hold no real hope to be honest

Calendar notifier works great for me. Gives me sound and custom LED color. The setup is a little cryptic, but I have it working fine.

I would pay pretty good $ to have a 1 single app that does custom LED colors and sounds for everything, even stock stuff: calendar alerts, Talk notifications, Google Voice notifications, gMail, Missed Calls, etc.. this is such a no brainer, but every dev does like a piece here and a piece there

Ha! Well, I'm still jealous of the guy from one of the other threads who somehow got missed call to work with his 2.2. Keep me posted and let me know what works for ya. I'll do the same.

I'd pay good money too, and I'm sure we're not the only ones...And I have a feeling that within the next few days I'll probably lose what little patience I have and just start emailing some devs - I'll keep the forums posted on any responses I get.
