It's been a fun ride. The 2200 quadrant score, the nightly updates, the SetCPU OC's.

But my experience the other day when my screen went black and the phone refused to take a charge for 6 hours put the fear of God in me. I seriously don't want a $600 brick on my hands if I blow this thing up and can't fix it before I bring it in for repairs.

The only thing I'll really miss is the free tether, but like pirated music, I felt kind of guilty for using something I wasn't paying for - karma and all that. On the other hand, I will enjoy having reliable 4g again ;-)

So good luck rootsters. I had my fun but I'm stock forever now. After all, my number #1 priority is having a phone that WORKS and I came damned close to breaking it the other day.

So u basically went from white to black just cause u got scared. All u needed to do was slow ur roll and settle for a ROM of ur choice and nice Kernel, nothing to crazy like those high Quadrant from Cyanogen and stop flashing every night for no reason.
As for the free tether don't feel quilty, yeah I now Karma is a bitch but I've learned that whatever u can take for free from this companies take it,as bad as the economy is $30 a month will take a toll on anyone's pocket. So I don't feel bad about it.

Hey guys,

Have no idea what almost broke it. That's what scared me. It just shuddered and stopped one day and no matter what I did to it, it wouldn't take a charge again. Finally I just resorted to the last great bastion of fixing things - I smacked it about 5 times real hard against my palm.

Boom, it charged. Yup, weird.

I've been unrooted for a day now and honestly, the phone runs about the same and I have reliable 4g. I'll get over it.

Whoa, nellie!

This is the first you've been clear on that part of the fix - at least to me.

There an issue for some with the usb port having QA issues - among things I've read there are poor solder joints.

Get your critical info backed up pronto.

Mechanical force might shock a bad solder point into temporarily working, but if I'm right and your problem is the usb port that handset is on borrowed time.

Backup suggestions are here:

In your shoes, I'd be running, not walking - to full off-phone backups.

The only way I have heard of someone bricking their Evo is from installing the OTA update twice..

Only way I have ever heard of anyone Rooting their HTC Hero was by flashing a GSM ROM.

Like posted above, you don't have to flash every day. Find a good ROM, and stick with it. I've been running Fresh since I rooted, and have no complaints.

yeah i would totally feel the same. just that feeling of being so close to having a pice of uselessness, i hear ya. but i definitely think you should give it another go, find a stable rom with no problems, and just live with the benefits you get with it

I don't think the op is saying the root made his phone go bad. I think he knows it was some hardware problem that made his phone stop working, but since it wasn't working he wasn't able to get back to stock to take it in for repairs. Since root = voided warranty, he's not willing to risk root anymore. IMHO

Exactly. I'm not blaming root (although oc'ing can cook a CPU). I am just afraid of it dying while rooted and voiding warranty. Anyway, except for being stuck with Sense stuff (which I hate), the phone runs about the same.

** Update - since unrooting charging problem has not reoccured. Take that as you like.
