Sorry if this isn't the right forum/spot, but I've seen many knowledgeable people here & thought I'd ask a charger question for Sony portable DVD players.

Got 2 players, an 8" and a 9". Both use the same 7.4v 3800mAh battery, yet the older 8" one has a 9.2 v 2A AC adapter that is larger & heavier while the newer 9" one has a much smaller, lighter & easily carried 9.2v 1.2A charger.

I'd like to know if they are interchangeable. Each seems to work fine with the other. I'd rather carry only the small one when taking the 2 in the car with the kids.

Got 2 different answers from Sony. One said yes and the other a stock "we can't recommend anything but the original charger" from a low level drone.

Sorry for the intrusion, but I was hoping some of the more informed electrically educated people could give me some advice.

Thanks!

The slower charger would be cheaper to make. Penny pinchers. As long as the voltage is the same, a device will only pull in as much current as it wants, as limited by the max of the device providing the current.

Explains much. The new one is smaller and lighter. Odd, though that the 12v car chargers look exactly the same, yet follow the same change in charging voltage. I wonder if a slower charge affects battery life, etc.
