Root Stock Froyo?

Hi!

One of the sticky ones at the top say upgrade to stock froyo. Is "stock" froyo the N1 froyo? The basic one from Google? And if so is it OTA direct from Google in the future just as it would be if running the actual N1?

I love the Desire but I think HTC has take it over to much. I like Sence and don't mind the HTC stuff on the phone - but as an extra, not replacement as HTC have done it.

I want 100% Desire hardware and 100% N1 software...

No no. Stock just means the standard OS that comes with the phone, untouched. Stock on the N1 is a vanilla android build. Stock on the Desire is android + HTC sense.

If you want a vanilla ROM on your desire, you could try a DeFrost ROM or something like that which (I believe) is ported over from an N1.

However, I personally install Homeswitcher and Launcherpro so I dont have to use sense. You can also get roms which include the default android launcher.

Can I ask I had downloaded the 2.2 upgrade through the phone, so I believe it has the 'stock' ROM installed. My phone is now working with 2.2 but I now want to root the phone.

Can I do this? as I have heard and not sure if true but if I have downloaded the 2.2 via the phone I won't be able to root the phone because its the actual update which HTC and Google have sent and can only do this with custom roms?

If someone could clarify this for me it would be most appreciated.

When you root, you are essentially putting a new rom on your phone that has root access (basically admin permissions). To root, you are essentially patching HBOOT with a recovery image which then allows you to install a rom with root access on it.

You can install a rom with root access over any rom, but you have to have a certain HBOOT version or earlier to enable the recovery image. I believe updating to the 2.2 Over the air version changes your HBOOT to a version that can not yet be patched.

Please, correct me anyone if I am inaccurate here.
