I am considering rooting my eris, and ive read only a few threads about it, but im still very reluctant. Im only 16 and i really dont wanna mess up my phone in any way. So my question is: Is rooting really that easy? Will it mess up my phone? Thanks in advance

i followed the universal root for dummies guide and i was able to achieve root. i was so scared i was going to mess it up before that i offered to pay someone on here to do it for me. that universal root guide is awesome. there's really no way to mess it up if you read slowly and follow everything he says BEFORE you start the action. now im doing nandroid backups and flashing roms like a pro. go for it, if you have questions, anyone on here can help.

I used Titanium Backup right after I rooted, then nandroid for every backup right before I try a new ROM. I also do incremental backups with Titanium just to keep all my software available. Then when I install a new ROM I can restore what apps I want from Titanium, or reinstall from the market. This works great for me since I have a couple of apps that are no longer available in the market. I prefer to use the market when possible though, just to be sure I am getting the version most compatible with whatever OS I happen to be using.

As I read your posts and questions in this thread, it's easy to see that you've got a good, healthy sense of caution and attention to details, erisx. Lack of those things can lead to trouble.. however, it should be pointed out that no matter the trouble you run into rooting your device, short of becoming angry and throwing or microwaving it, rooting problems are quite easy to resolve; you're going to end up with what you want, a fast, stable Eris.

Pick your chosen method of rooting, find a ROM that you fancy (read the developer's remarks and look at the screen shots, etc), and have fun. ;)

And please always come back and post your results and share with the community what you're doing.
