...I hope, anyway. Last week I got my 3rd captivate. Everything seems to be working nicely out of the box.

first one had a problem where the home button went nuts every now and then...drove me craaazy. Funny thing, though...the gps was great on it worked every time. just not inside, so...Checked on here, seems others had gotten new ones and the problem was gone. So I exchanged it...

second one worked mostly fine, but the gps wasnt working and i wanted it to work...none of the "fixes" on any forums worked, so i figured since I was in my 30 day window, why not try for a 3rd one...

well, the third one has treated me well (thus far, anyhow) everything works smoothly, and my battery life is beyond awesome, and the gps will lock in under a minute while indoors. But this makes me wonder if the gps is really a software issue....I've had 2 out of 3 phones that worked swimmingly, and 1 that didn't. I would think that if it's a software issue, it would be affecting all phones the same, and hardware issues would cause more random problems like these that are being reported...

now it's time to figure out android. coming from a 3gs this OS takes a bit of time to get used to. I can already tell I like it more than the damn iphone, though. My apologies in advance if I pester the more learned ones with seemingly dumb questions :)

Seems like everyone on the forums has had at least 3 of them, I wonder what they're going to do with all the returns! LOL this is what happens when you think you can save money by skipping quality control. Let's hope they learn their lesson!

These reports of people getting "working" GPS makes me want to try for another one...

While I agree that Samsung should have never let this phone release with the GPS issue, I also disagree with the fact that consumers think swapping the phone two, three or even four times to get a "working" one is the right thing to do. In fact, it's downright ignorant.

There is no "working" GPS yet. It's a software bug - not hardware.

Personally I think Samsung should be footing the bill (and/or exchange) for those of you with hardware showing legitimate issues, not AT&T.

I tend to disagree. I would offer to take video, however I have no means of doing so. But rest assured, despite my low post count, I have a GPS on my phone that works superbly with no changes right out of the box. Hopefully it will remain that way, however it's only been a little over a week, so we shall see.

As far as not swapping the phones multiple times, I believe it is well within my rights to do so as a consumer. In fact, it would probably do wonders for quality control; think like this--> you as a single consumer have pretty much no voice in anything samsung does, however if ATT gets pissed because they are footing the bill for a crapload of returns on a subpar product, THEY do have the influence to say "next time it's going to work when you send it to market" thus, I believe I am doing everyone a favor by returning my phone as many times as needed within my 30 day window in order to recieve a product that works as it should have the first time I took it out of the box.

Not trying to argue, merely celebrating the fact that my phone works. If yours doesn't, do everyone a favor and return it at least once. Hell, maybe you'll get one that works!

true enough, and you have no other choice but exchange until something works. I think his point was that you shouldn't *have* to. I opted to return mine and go back to a BB until I have proof that all the issues are fixed. QA should be done by the manufacturer, not their customers. Have you tested your GPS while driving? It's been very common for some people to see fast and accurate locks while stationary, but watch it all go to hell while moving.
