My screen just went black for no reason!! I had just looked at a text 10 minutes earlier. Felt it vibrate for an incoming text and when i went to check it all i got was a dark/black screen. I could see the lights at the bottom lit and i i could tell the phone was on because i swiped down on the lock screen and felt the home buttons react. I have taken the battery out twice, and still i dont see nothing. Any ideas what this is or how to fix it?

Yeah no luck with that either. Seems like the "light" just wont come on.

The only possible almost-user fixable things left would be in the power realm - if the battery just went haywire, completely, then it wouldn't pass the power management stuff - and screen inhibit wouldn't surprise me.

Try it (again, I've no doubt) with the charger cable plugged in - using a different cable to ensure that stone's been turned over.

If still no working, see if Sprint store will let you try to power cycle with their demo unit's battery.

If nothing after that - sounds like a hardware failure and it's warranty time.

Sorry - I'm out of ideas other than those.

Thanks, i just got back from the sprint store. They took it apart and looked it over. Its dead. They ordered me a new one. Who knows when that will come in. Now i need to figure out how to get my stuff off this phone and on to the sd card, so that i can atleast save some of the things i had before. Any idea how to do this?

Is there a way i can access my SD card? I need to save some things. Also how can i do do a data wipe? Remember my screen is black so i cant see anything. :(

1. With power off, remove the SD card and copy its contents. If you don't have an SD card slot handy to your computer - google for "usb sd card reader" - get an idea of what dongle looks like, buy one locally. Not expensive, good investment.

2. Often Sprint stores will let you keep your old SD card to put into the replacement - problem solved.

3. Holding down the volume key while powering up takes you to a bootloader screen. The volume keys navigate up/down the list of options - power selects.

I have a custom bootloader so I can't tell you - but someone here can check this - how many volume down clicks to get to "Clear Storage" - ??

Do that, even in the dark, it'll factory reset and clean up for you.

Supposedly you can also do this with a tool called adb (without issue? non-rooted?) - but I've never done it personally, so I'll leave that to novox's opinion.

This has happened to me mode than once. Were you on the lowest dim setting when it happened? When I would use my phone in bed and had it set dim the screen would turn black. Ever since ive kept the screen brightness to the 2nd setting when im in bed with the lights out and have not experienced any problems since.

Nope, it happened in the middle of the day, 5-10 minutes after i had just checked a text previously

I've been seeing this problem a lot lately, and it seems closely tied to my screen brightness. If I'm at the lowest brightness it happens frequently. I haven't seen the problem otherwise, but I'm watching for it.
