Help Synching Droid to Mac

My Macbook just won't recognize my Droid. it just doesnt. what do i need to do?

Curious about this too. I'm thinking of making the jump to the X/Verizon, and my main computer is a MBP. I have PC's as well, but I'd hate to be limited to using only my desktops.

I was having the same issue until I wen to the notification bar and turned the connection into USB mass storage instead of PC mode. Hope that works for you too!

To get rid of the "disk not readable by this computer" you need to change how it connects via USB. Plug it in, pull down the notifications, select USB Connection and change it to USB Mass Storage. Hit ok, then back out. You may need to unplug and plug it back in. Then it should mount as a drive.

I'm still working on the next problem. Mine is showing the disk in use constantly and I can't copy any files over. Waiting on Moto to call me back on that.

Thanks. Worked just fine. iPhoto started just fine and I moved my first DX picture to my MBP.

Played with this a little more. iPhoto seems to be the key for me. When I plug it in, iphoto launches and the drive mounts. If I leave iPhoto open, I can view the drive, copy files back and forth just fine. If I close iPhoto it locks up the SD card.

It doesn't appear to mount the drive every time I plug it in. Logging out and back in, then plugging the phone in seems to work reliably. I expect a software update will needed to smooth this process out.

I'm also a MBP user. The instructions above to switch to USB Mass Storage worked perfectly.

MBP here, too, and getting my X tomorrow. Somehow it's a relief to know there are some Mac people with android phones!

There are plenty out there. If you use iTunes, and want to put music on an Android device, download doubleTwist. It will read the iTunes library and show its contents. >|

Hi, I am having difficulties with mounting. I did the USB storage setting and my macbook still doesn't see it. Also this other program mediashare pops up and when i go through that it says that i have a missing SD card. Any thoughts?

Not to seem obvious, but you unplugged and replugged it in you mean? Do you get any system windows saying there's an error?

New to these forums but i had this same issue. I tried switching to Mass Storage and still my mac would not recognize my X. But i finally solved my problem.
With the X plugged in and in Mass Storage mode (phone not recognized yet) i switched to Charge Only mode, hit OK then went back and changed back to USB Mass Storage Mode and voila! No Name drive shows up on my mac...hope this helps!

+1 for double twist. It is similar to itunes and has android market access like the itunes app store. Recommended for both mac and pc.

This worked for me. I don't need to have USB debugging enabled either. This seems like a bug in Android 2.1.

I have photos I'd like to put onto iphoto, but when I attach the USB (now on USB Mass Storage, but I also tried the suggestion to put it onto charge only, then switch back), the "no name" phone shows up on the list but it is empty. When I look at my camera roll/gallery on the phone, it is empty. When I unplug the USB, the photos are there. Please help?

i'm running OS X 10.6.4. the first time i connected my X MBP wouldn't recognize it, i did the change to charge mode and back thing and it popped up. i named the drive and it now recognizes it every time. the reason you can't see your gallery on the phone is because when it's in usb mode it un-mounts the sdcard from your phone so it can no longer read it. when you click on the drive in the finder window all the folders on the sdcard should be there and your picks in the DCIM folder. are you plugging into a usb hub or direct? sometimes that matters... best of luck blue grass

Stephen, you are not doing anything wrong. In fact, as of a week or so ago, you use to be able to plug your X in to your mac, open iPhoto and it would show the DX as a camera and display all of your phones photos, and all you would have to do was push 'import photos' on iphoto just like you would with a normal camera. That all changed when Apple pushed out the last operating system update. Do you remember downloading that recently? I think it was like a week ago or so. I started a thread about this issue on another site and it seems everyone who installed the last update on their apple computers, can no longer have iphoto recognize photos on their DX. So far, the only way around it is to just manually drag them in from your DX camera folder, and then into iphoto. I can't help but think Apple probably did it on purpose just to make non-iPhones harder to use with a Mac haha. A-holes.

Yes I did do an update not all that long ago. I am on 10.6.5.

I will follow this tread to see if any better work arounds or fixes show up.

If you could let me know the other site and thread that you have on this topic that would be nice.

Not a problem. There are a couple other threads about this issue. The one I started was on Motorola's forums. I'll give you links to both. I actually remember reading today that someone called Apple about this issue and they said they hadn't heard of the issue but either Apple or Motorola would have to make a patch to fix it, though it's probably more in Apple's hands, I doubt there is much Motorola can do. I'm running Samsung Galaxy S on froyo 2.2 and got the same problem when I update my MacOSX to 10.6.5.

I did couple of file renaming trial to see what's going on and would share my findings as below. Hope this will be helpful when anyone talk to Apple guys for bugfix.

1. Mount the phone as Mass Storage
2. Under the DCIM folder of the storage (or SD Card), rename the "Camera" folder to anything that conform to the format "AAAAAAAA" (8 alphanumeric chars, example "Camera01")
3. Rename the photo from the preset file name "yyyy-mm-dd hh.mm.ss.jpg" to conform to the format "AAAAAAAA.jpg" (again 8 alphanumeric chars, example "12345678.jpg")
4. start either iPhoto or Image Capture, the photo appear again in the application.
5. I repeat the above steps using a Card Reader for SD Card and get the same result.

it seems that Apple is "hard-coded" the file format for import when mount the media as Mass Storage. The problem didn't happen when I direct connect a digital camera which mount as non-mass storage

P.S. As when I'm typing this, iPhoto 9.1.1 update was jumping out so I did a quick try, sadly to tell it DID NOT fix the problem...
