Root Want to root, but scared...

Hey, i'm thinking of rooting, but i have a few questions that i need answering before i dare do it. lol. I think i can handle the root, but just don't want anything to go wrong when it's too late.

1. what are the advantages to having a phone that is rooted?
2. whats the best ROM to go for?
3. i have 2.2 installed and everything is going great, will rooting make it better?
4. what if it all goes tits up?
5. is there someone near me who can do it for me 'cos i'm a scaredy cat! lol!!

2. whats the best ROM to go for? Again, this depends totally on what you want from a ROM, HTC sense, or no sense

4. what if it all goes tits up? then you can un-root
5. is there someone near me who can do it for me 'cos i'm a scaredy cat! lol!! lol, where do you live?

Sorry, question 3. Have you done an official upgrade to 2.2? if so, i am not 100% if you are able to root anyway..... I may be wrong (probably am) im sure someone will correct me if so.....

yeah i have done a bit more digging, seems i need to wait until a more solid ROM comes out and has been tried and tested.

Also got a hboot of 0.92 - wtf does that mean?

hboot is just the code that the phone boots from.. 0.92 cannot be rooted, but there are methods of downgrading the hboot to 0.80 which can be rooted, but im not too sure on how well this works..

is there anything that you can achieve through rooting that appeals to you over the 2.2 OTA update?

Nothing in particular that i want from the root, just like the idea of having a few more options etc if i wanted to use them. Maybe i will just stick with the stock Froyo 2.2 as i quite like it.
