I have seen conflicting information on whether or not the Seidio will charge to full inside the phone. Anyone that has the Seidio 3500, please reply if you can or cannot get it fully charged in the phone. I read all the Amazon reviews, and no one stated anything about using an external charger.

it wont
theres a serious problem with the battery meter on the phone

the batter will charge to full (green light on phone) but it wont actually be full

you would have to continously do the unplug/replug crap to have it fully charge to 100%

using an external charger would get you to 100%

but thats an inconvience to me

Seido claims that is does.Just leave the phone plugged for 2-3hrs after light turns green.

The way the phone charges even our OEM batteries though, it seems like it literally shuts off the charge once it detects 100%, whatever it may really be. So leaving it in for an extra few hours doesn't seem to do anything. Otherwise, our OEMs wouldn't drop from 100% immediately after unplugging right?

Where seidio say this at

In the box, when you buy the battery. :) It's also probably why nobody on the Amazon.com review site mentions anything about having charging issues. Their instructions clearly state to leave it on the charger for a few hours after the LED turns green. I've tried both, and the only way it takes a full charge is if you leave it on the charger. The LED obviously isn't all that reliable.

Bottom line - it works. It works very well.

No it doesnt. Try charging it in an external charger and see how much longer the charge stays at 100% then slowly drops like it should. Now charge it in the phone again and watch it drop to the 80's pretty fast. You WILL notice a difference. I have tried BOTH ways and an external charger gives a MUCH MUCH better charge. If you still think this isn't an issue go over to the xda forums and check out the seidio 3500mah battery thread and read about the people that are having the same problem.

The charging bug is a known issue. Once the phone hits what it thinks is 100% it stops charging it has been well documented and talked about in many many threads

Uhhh... yes it does. Wait, no it doesn't. Then again, pretty sure it does.

Regardless of what the indicator says, I can easily go 2-3 days without a charge, moderate usage, with 4G, BT, and GPS on all day. I'd be lucky to get through a day on the stock battery.

Mine stays at 100% for a while before it starts to drop, and then very slowly at that. I'm also on a normal non-rooted Evo with Froyo. I've read a lot on various forums regarding ext'd battery charging problems. I have noticed a lot of them are talking about non-seidio (ie. Chinese) batteries, they're not leaving it on the charger after the LED turns green, and a whole bunch are on rooted phones with mysterious ROM's. But this is the internet; you can't trust everything you read or assume we're comparing apples to apples. What buggy OS/ROM/Apps are they running? Are they just repeating what other random people are saying without verifying it for themselves? Heck, I could be lying or seriously misguided.

You just have to hope I have better things to do with my time and would only tell you what I've experienced for myself. :)

But hey, maybe other people are having genuine charging problems with the phone or are experiencing this "bug" you speak of. In which case it's conceivable to believe that not all phones are affected as well. But I'm with the 50+ 5 star reviews on Amazon whose batteries are charging just fine in the phone by following Seidio's instructions. Trust me, if I had to take the battery out of the phone every time it needed to be "fully charged," this thing would have been returned the day I got it.

I just unplugged my phone (100% stock running froyo) ten minutes ago after letting it charge overnight and I'm at 91% after 10 minutes. I works still give this battery 5 stats in a review because the 90% charger it took will last a long time. Both my phone and my wifes phone do this. Remember all the threads about the stock battery dropping into the low 90's as soon as its unplugged? That's the charging bug.

They start talking about not charging in the phone on the bottom of page 11 of this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736273&page=11

Dunno, I've been running my phone off the charger for about 30 min this morning making phone calls and it still shows 100%. Maybe they should start gathering more data about each phone and try to find out where the issue is? You also have to keep in mind, that is the XDA forum. If anybody is going to mod their phone or install crazy beta stuff on it, it's those guys. :)

So if anybody is or isn't having issues charging batteries while in the phone, we'd need more information.

Which HW version? 003
Which Android/SW version? 2.2 / 3.26.651.6

What is the USB's power source to the phone (PC, AC, DC)? AC Power
How long does ext'd battery last? 2-3 times longer than stock
How quickly does charge status drop after "full" charge? 1-2hr @ 100%.

And well, any other relevant info that we think might be helpful.

What is the USB's power source to the phone (PC, AC, DC)? AC Power; tested using OEM EVO charger, OEM HTC TP1 charger with mini USB to micro USB adapter, OEM Apple iPod charger with micro USB cable.
How long does ext'd battery last? About 2 days, depending on use. The OEM 1500 lasts about 6-8 hrs.
How quickly does charge status drop after "full" charge? It goes from 100% to 75% rapidly. From 75%, it's steady. The OEM 1500 drops to about 90 something % within 10 minutes, IIRC.

How long does ext'd battery last? About 3 days, depending on use. The OEM 1500 will last about 12 hours, though I've gone for two days with moderate use.
How quickly does charge status drop after "full" charge? Takes about 20 minutes to go to 99% on the Yoobao, same for the OEM 1500.

I'll test again tonight into tomorrow for the OEM 1500, then again tomorrow into the next day for the Yoobao 3000.

I too get in an instant drop from supposedly 100% to about 90% after only doing very few things. Many people have complained about this so its common sense to assum it's a problem with the evo itself. neoshi if you don't have this problem pat yourself on the back, kiss your phone, and keep charging in the phone if it makes you happy. for the all the rest of us this is obviously a problem and we're trying to find work arounds and charging externally seems to fix the problem. I bought an external charger and i no longer instantly drop to the 90's after 10 min of use. There IS A FLAW with charging the battery in the evo that doesn't allow to get a full charge. If it doesn't affect you pat yourself on the shoulder but there is COUNTLESS people on many boards having this issue. It's safe to assume it's a real issue.

Lol I think you misunderstand my intentions with my initial findings post. I totally agree with you, which is why I show two sets of results, one via phone charging showing instant drops and one externally charging, showing little or no instant drop. My post history shows this as well, much like novarider's batteries (seidio and ebay)

And I just unplugged my phone 20 mins ago, 87% already and also instantly dropped from 100 upon unplug.

Anyhow, I chuckled because I swear that should have been directed at omega, who has been doubting our claims regarding the charging bug.

Just got my Yoobao battery from Singapore in the mail today and just put it on the external charger. I'll report back with specifics as soon as I get a full charge. I run JuicePlotter and so I should be able to provide some very specific discharge chart screen shots in the next few days.

By the way, I got the battery and back in 8 days. Damn fast service. Normally 14+ days from Hong Kong.

I have the same issue on my 2.2 evo and Seidio 3500, no matter how long or soon I take the phone off the charger my percentage drops quickly down to the 80 something percent. The battery does last much longer than my stock 1500. But do wonder if it could last longer if I used an external charger.
yes you will get an external charger, you wont regret it!

Got my Yooboa battery charged yesterday afternoon and popped it in the phone at 4pm. Used the phone for a couple of hours, checking email, a little web browsing, etc. As you can see from the JuicePlotter chart it took 3 hours of use to draw it down to 90% and this is only on the first charge.

Didn't charge the phone overnight and with some downloads that are scheduled to occur during the night I still was at 80% 14 hours later. I'll see how well it holds up today with a full day's activities.

Very happy with the fit and finish of the Yooboa phone back. The phone with the new battery and back still fits in my BestBuy Rocketfish universal belt case.

I think I'm going to be loving my phone's new capacity! Cross my fingers that it holds up for the next day or so.
