Google Chrome and Google Android

Hi all.
I was just thinking that one day in the near future we will have Google operating systems on all of our devices ie phone, laptop, and tablet/pad. Im not sure what if any difference between Chrome and Android and how this will affect the likes of Microsoft and Apple. I believe that you can now download the complete Chrome operating system and install it on our laptops etc. see this link Google Android OS Now Available For Download
What are your thoughts on google operating systems.

What you linked to isn't the Chromium OS it's just an Android build for X86 machines. The Chromium OS is basically just a Linux distribution with no GUI other than the Chromium browser. So both would be able to run on very low end machines but I don't see either being practical for netbooks, laptops or desktops.

Ubuntu Netbook Edition (UNE) is by far the best choice for the Netbook at the moment as MS Windows 7 Starter (their netbook os) just restricts you from changing your wallpaper but still offers a full size Windows interface whereas the GUI of UNE is designed from the ground up for netbooks by making the most of screen real-estate.

I don't agree with that and I don't think the majority of consumers agree with that. The vast majority of netbooks are running some flavor of Windows, not some flavor of Linux. People just aren't buying Linux netbooks regardless of whether they OS is better suited to run on the hardware or not, consumers just don't want it.

That being said, I don't anticipate a day where everything runs a version of a Google OS. MS and Apple are just too big to let that happen.

I expect that netbooks and laptops will come with 2 OS's. They will have something like Chrome OS for a quick boot to access your email and things instantly. Then you will have Windows for your real work. Chrome OS will not have all the features it needs to be a full fledged Windows replacement for a while. MS and Apple have been doing this for a while. I love Google and their products but I just don't think the world is ready for Chrome OS yet.

That I could legitimately see. You could boot into a Chrome OS which would load in a matter of seconds. This would be stripped down and give you access to just basic stuff while you'd have another OS to do real work. I could definitely see something like that happening. You don't want to wait while your OS loads all the time, but you don't want a stripped down, bare bones OS all the time either. Having two OS's would solve both problems.
