Help Performance Issues with Update 2.2

Ever since I installed the leaked 2.2 update, I've been having nothing but performance issues with my DX. The CPU is constantly at 90-100% usage, and there is only 30-40 MB of RAM available at any time. I will end all tasks, RAM will go up to 200 MB available and within minutes it's down to 30-40 available and the CPU is completely used up. When I look at the list of apps running, it's stuff that I haven't even opened yet or have anything scheduled in them like Alarms, Contacts, Contacts Storage, Google Search, Market, Music, Seesmic, Social Networking, Voice Commands, Weather, TTS Service, AppBrain, Backup Assistant, Battery Manager (makes sense)... all stuff that I don't use but is being run automatically. All this crap makes the phone laggy as hell and practically impossible to use.

So what I'm getting at here, is anyone else having problems like this? Would overclocking the CPU help? Should I do a factory reset and start from scratch? If I do a factory reset right now with rooted 2.2, what would happen? Would I go back to 2.1 and lose root or what?

Thanks for any help!

Edit: I just realized almost every app I have is being run... rebooting the phone doesn't help. What the hell?

I have only experienced minor issues except for the fact that I lost my root or something happened to it. Now when I go to my wifi tether it tells me unable to open. I don't know how to fix it. I also have noticed a lot of apps run much slower than the 2.1 such as when opening contacts. The pictures load very slow and when side scrolling to the history or to the social networking it takes forever to load. Another app that is much slower is my gallery, which doesn't recognize the camera folder half of the time. On the other hand though my widgets have been doing fine. I have been trying to find out how to revert back to 2.1 but can't find a link. Any help?

I did a factory reset (which for some reason kept the 2.2 update AND root, while resetting everything else) and everything is much smoother now. But then again, I haven't reinstalled all of my applications yet so we'll see.

j-representer, there is a link on the first page of the Droid X forum. It says "HOW TO: Reverting back to 2.1" or something along the lines of it.

The data reset kept 2.2 because that is the currently installed OS on your phone.
