Hey guys,

Thinking of getting the Xperia X10 but waiting for 2.1 to come out first and see the response from this crowd (sorry for using you guys as guinea pigs. :p) but all this talk about lack of MT but what will I truly be missing without it other than certain games. As an addition to that are there games out there that use don't use multitouch? I'm not looking for my Android to be a gaming device, I have my PS3 and my computer for that but I would like to play SOME games on it.

But, the main gist of this all is is the lack of MT really a problem? I know in this day and age, MT is taken for granted but yeah, is the phone severely crippling without it?

Thanks for your input guys and I hope to be an Xperia X10 adopter soon.

EDIT: The title should be "what will I be missing without MT?" Damn you english! ;_;

i find lack of mt on my 3 weeks with phone irritating. having never owned a smart phone i have played around a ton with iphones and various android phones and was expecting to get it..but had a lousy sales person who lied.
for example...
i am in google maps..and its not crashing..which it usually is..but pretend its working...i want to zoom in.
if i had MT i could simply pinch once or twice and in a couple seconds i am zoomed in or out.
however...with the x10...i must touch a part of the screen..to move it a bit...to make the magnifying glasses appear..that amt of time alone is equal or more than pinch and zooming with mt.
but now i must click the magnifying glass..which this dumba** sometimes hits the wrong way i.e. zoom out when i meant in...and then i might have to click once..or twice..or more.
why so many? because it might zoom in or out less or more than i want..so i end up having to play with it.
rendering sometimes in maps takes a few more seconds...so i wait...then see its not enough..then must do all over.
is this ten minutes? of course not. but can the simple act of enlarging or shrinking a map take me up to 20 seconds vs 3 on any other phone with mt? yes...it can take 10 times as long each and every time you move to a new page etc.
sometimes also just in the motion of trying to move the screen to make the glasses appear i for example in browser might accidentally push wrong and connect with a visible url on screen and next thing you know i am moving to wrong page and must click the back button and start all over.
i find browsing a pain due to lack of mt as you have little control.

i also find that some apps i have downloaded need mt. i have some golf ones i did not know why as gps they were not functioning right...it had no mt and for some games..it had no mt so they would not work.

to me..its a big pain. enough that i might not keep this thing.

Shark you really do have a dodgy phone mate, have you tried running the SE repair service? :(

I have yet to have google maps force close on me and I use google navigation 2-3 times a week. Plus I never have my zoom buttons disappear on my phone it's now been on google maps for 5 minutes and the buttons are still there and to be fair watching my mate on his desire trying to pinch zoom on google maps is funny but he does have big fat Homer Simpson fingers lol.

The only time I got really annoyed about the lack of MT was when the PS1 emulator came out and all the games I love need MT but I have found many a fun game on the market that does not need MT.

Still pissed that it dont have it though but I want a 4 inch screen and I want an individual phone so Im stuck with the X10 for now.

yes re the repair function. i mentioned it somewhere in a post on this site. it was funny as it told me to back up contacts etc and in middle of back up it did a force close.
funny it want to prevent forced closes and in trying to do so..it does it. so i finally did all steps, backed up, did the repair thing with pc companion. then loaded new software, os, then added back my back up, but first time out it did not add my contacts.
it scared me..but luckily i tried again just for contacts and it worked. but then in running it right after, i went to go into browser to check my yahoo mail...
...well u guessed it...it crashed and closed...waited a couple minutes to reboot..went into google maps and it boom...another crash.

very sad.

I am many things but a phone engineer I am not, but as a man that would say "Im not a gynaecologist, but I will take a bloody good look!"

I would say this about your phone "It's fecked! Big style!"

Get a replacement and I'm sure you will have a far nicer experience with the X10, did you see my comment about web browsers to you?

I've had mine for months, I use psx4 droid, browse regularly, take a lot of pics and the phone is perfect! Ignore these nay sayers with nothing bette to do except play with the phone until they have something to complain about

Can't remember where I saw it but se ee even working on a better way to browse with 1 hand by holding in and dragging in a direction for zooming which seems much easier, I love how a phone this big is so easier to use with 1 hand

Trust me its a great phone, and I for one am happy with it, my friend with an iphone 4 is jealous of all the tricks I've got, Can't wait for 2.1 complete with se's little bonuses for the camera and browsing :p get it!

Tinkk no nay sayers here... Yet. Shark seems to have a phone which is corrupt and should and I think will be replaced.

With regards to the one hand zoom in the browser, honest try Dolphin... Just hold your thumb/finger on the screen and you get a lot more options than zoom in and out all done by: Place didget on screen-slide said didget to required option-release said didget.

Job done form zooming in and out to saving images to opening links in a new window, not to mention hand gestures to control forwards/back/refresh/open bookmarks and even asign your own gestures to do many things.

You will like it!

Tabbed browsing, all of the above, a plugin to save bookmarks to SD card and you can sync all you bookmarks from the stock browser with Dolphin, press the settings button (hard key with 4 squares above) for options and you can view downloads, settings including privet browsing and a sh!t load more.

How do you play PSX4DROID without multitouch? Don't you need it for those PS games?

Anyways, thanks for your inputs guys. So, really the main thing I'll be missing is time when using this, at least until SE releases their one finger zoom thing that I saw a while ago. I can live without games...I suppose. But other apps don't require it too much do they?

Camera focus, volume controls and back button that's your 4 shape buttons right there :p its very rare you need shoulder buttons and directions at the same time but if you do just bind a different key, I find these easier than all on the screen anyway since my hands are huge

Really haven't noticed any apps where mt would improve performance, and in fact trying on swype rather than hammering away with both thumbs is much more convenient, the sole example I can think of is google maps which tbh is pretty cool with pinch and rotate
