Quick question. After first installing the ROM, upon pressing the home button I am given a choice between ADW.Launcher and LauncherPro. What is the difference and after i set one as default how do I clear the defaults? Thanks

There are a few differences in them. I would recommend using each one to find the one you like more. To switch between them and change the default you can get a free program from the market called Home Switcher.

Here's how to create a backup in ClockworkMod Recovery
From the main recovery screen, go to: Nandroid and then select
"Backup"


Edit: Ok, so I used the app "QuickBoot" and booted into
*Recovery Mode* using Clockwork Recovery and now I understand.

Yeah, people that are used to SPRecovery may not understand so I'll take the opportunity to elaborate

When you make a backup from inside Clockwork Recovery (NOT the same thing as the ROM Manager app), you cannot name your backups. It will just label your backup with a date and time.

If you go to the application called ROM Manager, you can "Backup Current ROM" and when you select that...you have the opportunity to name the file. I usually name it something like:

LFY_v1.5_stock_8-23-10 - for stock LFY ROM with stock kernel
BFY_LFY_v1.5_1.2GHz_8-23-10 - for Blueberry LFY ROM with 1.2 GHz kernel

You CAN rename your backups in ROM manager via "Manage and Restore Backups" (when you select a backup...you will have the option to restore, rename, or delete).

Name your files PROPERLY!!! It could save you lots of time and frustration later on...

Hopefully that makes sense to everyone...

i've always wiped data and cache when installing new ROM but i'm hesitant with these instructions.

Do you have to wipe data...no...but you could have issues if you don't. You could try it and then take it from there.

As for formatting you system and boot partitons...I HIGHLY recommend it but most people are not used to formatting those.

Your backups would be stored on your SD Card, so you will be fine.

Not to disagree with you, as you have rooted things far more than I have, and I'm fully expecting issues with the way I did things, but as I mentioned earlier, I flashed 1.5 right over BnB themed 1.4. So far, no issues! I just wanted to see what would happen.

Obviously, not the best way to do it. But it sure was nice not to have to reload all my apps and reset all my icons.

Just hoping I stay lucky and don't have any issues down the road.

Yep, and it's sweet when you can get away with that and I often try to take shortcuts to save me time as I have flashed hundreds of ROMs...here's what I've found.

Sometimes you get lucky...sometimes you don't. But when you don't...you often spend more time fixing it than it would have taken you to just do it "the right way"...the first time

I know people don't always follow instructions and that's cool...I'm just trying to put out the "Best Practice" ways of doing things. What people choose to do is up to them...but my first question to them when they are asking for help is: "Did you format data?" My second question is: "Did your format your system and boot partitions?"

It's just been my experience that most people having problems...can't say yes to either of those questions

i installed slayhers new 1.2 liquid kernal and my battery temp is holding a steady temp of 105.8. are these kernals low voltage? this is at idle. i did not have this problem with his v 1.6 kernals.

Holding a steady temp? You sure the data isn't updating on Temp Monitor (or SetCPU)?

I'm seeing reasonable temperatures here...

i think there is a problem with the temp reporting in setcpu. it is VERY slow to respond for some reason... i mean like minutes to change then tempdrops several degrees...

it seems to only be the battery temp not the cpu temp

thanks. i am pretty sure the temps are not accurate. i have reinstalled the kernal, deleted and reinstalled setcpu rebooted phone, and still no luck. i just ran the stress test and no change with battery temp. holding steady at 104 degrees. any suggestions?

EDIT: I hope you didn't revert back to the old boot animation on my account. I mean, I kinda hope ya did, but yanno. lol Also I see you have some skins for Beautiful Widgets. Any chance Weather Widget Donate can get some love? I'm thinking of getting Beautiful Widgets just so I can have my choice of either, as I change wallpapers and themes so much anyway.

They say 1.5 for LFY 1.5, not for slayher version. And yes, they enable compcache automatically after each reboot (I tested this functionality multiple times last night).




Nope, you don't have to run anything in terminal to enable compcache -- it's built into the ROM.

am i correct to assume that if compache is built into the rom, that slayhers 1.6 kernals will also enable compache with this rom? i am digging 1.5 but i cant get the 1.5 kernals to cooperate. i may go back to to the 1.6 kernals if so.

EDIT: this does not appear to be a kernal issue either. i reinstalled the 1.6 kernal(no problems on 1.4) and am having the same problem: phone is running hot by feel and cpu temp(which is responding accurately) but the battery temp will not respond correctly.

Just installed 1.4 today like couple hours ago, did the wipe and all, so didn't want to wipe again to install 1.5, so far so good, no issues and running fast and stable and I haven't even upgraded my kernel yet. Threw on the smoked theme and gotta brand new phone now. Thanks team Liquid.

I didn't see one. I'd rather it not be a system app though. If there are updates you can't do them if it is one. I have the paid version and want any updates I paid for.

After you use the script to remove LP, you have to reboot the phone before you can install it from the market again.

Same holds true for any other app that was in that system that you remove using a script.

One way to clear defaults would be to go to Settings --> Applications --> {find the particular launcher you want - ADW / LP and press it} --> press the button that says clear defaults.

Home switcher is a good tool if you regularly change your home for whatever reason - such as being a ROM tester. Otherwise, it is pretty much a waste of space for something you'll do maybe once.

The differences between ADW and LP are too numerous to iterate here - you should try both of them out extensively and decide for yourself - both are high quality products.

By properly, he means this - no spaces in the file name - else the system will not allow it to proceed. There may be a max character count on the name itself, but I have seen some pretty long file names (and made a few myself). But spaces are a no go.

You got lucky - and I have done the same as well as gotten lucky.

However, you've had the ROM for less than 36 hours - let's see if it runs smooth as silk in 2 weeks. Or 2 months. That would be pure luck then.

In order to prevent idiosyncrasies in a ROM install that are too painful to trace down, and are a direct result (or even an indirect result, which are far greater PITAs) of not wiping, most ROM devs are gonna tell you - WIPE.

It's just like when n00bs tell other n00bs that rooting is easy, it takes 5 minutes - yeah, but if it gets tangled in a FUBARd SNAFU, then the n00b now had no clue as to what to do next. So advocating an in-place upgrade of a ROM over another ROM is almost taboo these days - we have enough headaches as it is from *other* in-place upgrades....

Are you using Slayher's kernels? I just had a bad case of the reboots on LFY 1.4 using jjdflg's 1200 Temp Monitor aware kernel - not happy any more. Before it supported TM, his 1200 was the shiznit, I was hitting very high 18.x MFLOPs and a super high Quadrant score as well, under BB 0.4.

Now - not so good.

Can you detail the difference between this B&B them and the smoked theme? I saw a couple but overall it looks very similar to the SFY....
