Android 2.2 on Three UK

I have just spotted the following on the techradar.com site:

Android 2.2 release date: when will you get it? | News | TechRadar UK

Three announces HTC Hero and HTC Desire Android upgrade dates | News | TechRadar UK

Three are saying that "HTC are building a specific version for Three which will take them a few weeks. Once we have this version it will be tested, approved by Google and then rolled out to customers."

The Desire handsets that I have seen in the Three Store so far are unbranded and unlocked. Do you think this means that the FroYo update for Three is going to brand the phones? I really want to avoid this, but the contract on my existing phone doesn't expire for another month. So the question is, do I wait and take the risk of getting a branded phone, or do I get one now and hope that I can get the default 2.2? Can anybody confirm that 2.2 is currently available on unbranded and unlocked Desires from the Three Store?

BTW, I realise that I can get an unbranded Desire for Three from CPW, but this phone doesn't have the language capability that I need, whereas the one from Three Store does.

Well I had one of the last ones from the "earlier batch", thus being unbranded. My brother and one of my friends bought theirs from a three shop a few days later and their's are from the "later batch" hence the fact that they have three branded firmware (comes up with the three logo when turning it on)

Looks like I'm too late. I went to the 3 Store yesterday, and the phone they brought out was branded and locked. :(
