Need Help On Installing 2.2 Froyo Update

Ive got the update.zip on my SD Root but when i go into recovery menu to install it it goes to

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying current system...

Thats the exact error message

2.1-update1
not rooted


Anyone got any ideas how to fix this?
i got the OTA to download after i went into "settings/about phone/system updates" n it downloaded but it would not install that way either ive tryed resetting my phone back to factory settings like 4 times i whipped all sd card data and still nothing.....

it is somewhere in this forum it was a post from trident you could download it with or without a computer.the date of the post was 08/03/2010

I got the same message but it still installed. After that message there was another option i believe.
