Battery cover is junk for HTC Desire!

I took off the battery cover today when my phone wouldn't turn off. It was in shutdown mode for about 25 minutes, so I just pulled the battery. This is the first time I've taken the cover off.

I've spent over 45 minutes trying to get the cover back on correctly. What a piece of trash! All the connectors are still there, but when I put the cover on, it not longer has a "smooth" feel, but its clunky since the top left side (near the volume key), as well as the top right side straight across.

No matter what I do, those parts of the cover will NOT stay down. I've tried connecting the cover every different way, as well as pressing down on each connector after its on to see if I can find a lose spot. No luck. 45 damn minutes and I'm about to throw it across the room.

Seriously, I love this phone but if something this stupid is going to happen, I may as well switch phones because this is the most frustrated I've ever been with a cell phone.

I think its one of the better battery covers for a phone, very simple to open with no issues unlike the other mobiles I have had. It even has a place to get your nail under near the power button to make it super easy and it just clicks back on.

And to be fair unless you are installing the battery or you have a faulty ROM when are you going to need to pull it.

Umm.. when your phone freezes?

I've still been trying and no luck. It's not like I can't use it, but its just annoying when I know how smooth it was compared to now when the sides stick out.

It makes for a really uncomfortable hold not to mention the phone feels REALLY cheaply made now, since it feels if I lose hold of the part thats sticking out, it's going to crash to the floor.

It does feel like maybe one of the clips isn't sticking, but I've tried everything to make them stick down.

I think I'm going to have to send it back, I guess. Like I said, I love it but its pretty ridiculous I just wasted nearly 2 hours of my life trying to make the phone feel new when I've only had it for 15 days.

I'm not sure what to do. I don't even want to use it because it feels like its going to crumble in my hands, lol. Maybe picking the Desire over the iPhone wasn't the smartest idea.

It clips off, it clips on. That's pretty much all you can ask of a battery cover. :p Is your problem that it won't push down all the way, or that it won't align properly?

As to your iPhone comment, removing the problematic feature (Battery cover) is NOT an improvement.
Won't push down all the way on the left side (when looking at the battery cover). I have like no nails, and I can slide mine inside and pick up the cover. Or I can simply push the right side a smidgen, and the cover will come up on the left side.

I wouldn't care so much if it was at the top or the bottom, but being right where you hold the phone in your hand, its awkward and just feels brutal.

I have to agree that it doesn't seem to be the best made battery cover, especially compared to my previous HTC phone:

On my Touch HD it simply slid into position and I had two batteries which I used to interchange between charges, but although I have two batteries for the Desire (given it's insatiable appetite) I try not to change the battery that often on the basis that I don't reckon the lugs on the battery cover will last very long.

I suspect over time they will become worn and the cover will practically fall off, but time will tell...

I have to say, this cover scares the hell out of me. I feel like I'm about to break it every time I use it. I think its still aligned properly, but I use a case so It makes no difference anyway to me. I wish it had 1 latch not these snaps, but then it would not have cool smooth back that's all the rage these days.

I'd read stories before I got mine about it being a problem. When me and the Mrs got ours I was a little nervous about taking it off but its simple and does the job perfectly.

Think some people are more technically/common sense minded than others as I've taken both ours off quite a few times now and still fit snug as a bug in a rug :D

I'd take it back asap, get it replaced and see how you get on with a 2nd try.

I agree the battery cover can be better but like someone pointed out, i have seen worse. Anyway, i got curious to want to know why you sound like your phone freezing is a regular occurrence? Since i got my phone i have opened the battery cover only about 4 times, once just after it arrived and the rest 3 times when i have upgraded my SD card. I have never had a phone freeze.

I had an issue with my cover that was similar to that mentioned waaay up top of this thread. I could not see why it would not fit perfectly and eventually I found that I had slightly bent a clip at the top (the last bit to go on). It was hardly noticeable as it had sort of folded back on itself. With some nervous plastic bending skills (slowly slowly) all was returned to normal. It was my fault as I was in a hurry putting it back on. :D
Hope this helps.

This was the the first time I've taken it off. My phone freezing is not a regular occurange, it happened once in 15 days. I'm not sure why, but it wouldn't power down even after 25 minutes.

I'm going to call my cell provider and just get them to replace the cover and see if that works. If not, then I'll just return the phone.

+20 for this.

The Desire battery cover is the best I have ever encountered. And trust me, I've had A LOT of mobiles in my life.

Fits perfectly. A piece of piss to remove, and put back on. Feels great. VERY flush fitting.

Yup, I'd give it a 100% score......if there was such a thing as a battery score LOL

Even taking into account the appalling lens cover?
