Does this mean no gingerbread for us?

No. Gingerbread is supposed to be out before the the holiday shopping season this December. The targeted release is mid-October, last I heard, with the anticipation that holiday phones will come with it pre-installed. So, the Droid X should still get Gingerbread I'd think....In due time. Gingerbread will require a minimum of 1 GHz.

Yea, I don't expect the X to all of a sudden get slow and die on us. I love the phone and it does an AWESOME job as a smartphone. It'll help me in April just as much as it helps me now.

Great points....
My rant:
Don't laugh but it wasn't long ago I used the phone mostly to talk only. I didn't like text messages because I felt obligated to reply and typing into a 9 number keypad seemed a silly waste of time for me. I was convinced I had the best phone anywhere and for me it was. It seemed like they stopped making it a few months after I got it and I managed to get around 3 years out of it and was upset when it broke beyond repair and none new were available. It was a Motorola V9M. Ebay had them and I bought one advertised as new never used. What a load of rubbish. It had been under water, looked awful inside and had only a new looking case. Even the battery was old and the charger used and non functional. I returned it for a refund and got the Palm Pre as it was VZW's only phone that was a wifi hotspot at the time. They have had trouble selling the Pre so you pay nothing extra for the hotspot usage and I might add it works exceptionally well. I disliked the Pre as for being so capable a phone, the keyboard is tiny and very difficult for me to use properly. After the Droid X appeared I got one and turned the Pre over to my wife who loves the hotspot ability and the lipstick mirror! I am quite content with the Droid X and if they stop making them tomorrow, as you rightly said..... It will still do the same great job it does now , perhaps even better with updates.
