No it isn’t a Disney-themed variant of the popular smartphone currently on a tear in South Korea. After only 55 days the Samsung Galaxy S has topped 800,000 units sold, an impressive figure made even more impressive when considering that makes the S the best selling handset in South Korea ever. Though Samsung really doesn’t [...]

Nothing in either of those two links indicate one phone is better than the other (despite the fact that the 2nd is a bias blog and is completely irrelevant). Both phones have pros and cons, it really comes down to personal preference. Both the SGS and the Iphone 4 are great phones.

Though it is an interesting "coincidence" that the SGS is designed to look literally identical to the Iphone 3G/S. I've never seen such obvious mimicry on a cell phone, they might as well just call it a 3GS. Hmm.. 3GS..SGS..3GS..SGS..3GS..SGS. Another "coincidence" I'm sure.

Fanboy? If you want a phone that looks like an iPhone then buy an iPhone.

iphone look? please son, these two phones are not even close. apart from the fact that SAMSUNG makes most of the parts of the iphone lol. Do you think Samsung would be foolish enough not to have better products for their own phones? All that to say, i'd even get the sgs for the Super Amoled Screen alone.

Only samsung knows real reason why they designed their phone to look _identical_ to an iphone, though i suspect its because they want to appeal to potential customer who like the look and design of an iphone.

I am no Apple fanboy, in fact quite the opposite. I cant stand Apple as a company for the way they advertise their products as if the world is full of ignorant idiots, and Apple fanboys thinking Apple invented touch screen smart phones and tablets PCs..

And for the record I do own a Galaxy S myself. But lets face the reality; Samsung went a bit too far trying to copy iPhone look with Galaxy S. i am only talking about the aesthetics NOT the functions nor features. Rounded edges with a metal trim, one big hardware button on the middle instead of 4 standard android buttons, four docked icons on the main screen that resembles iphone icons, a main menu screen with iPhone like icons and right to left sweep to change menu pages, a note taking app that looks identical, a threaded SMS interface with same exact bubbles design ?? I know none of these features/ designs are owned by Apple, and there is nothing wrong with Samsung using them; but C'mon if you don't see any resemblance then you haven't seen an iPhone before.

I love everything about the Galaxy S except the iPhone wannabe look.

Then you'll definitely hate the Galaxy S Tablet. That thing is a total rip-off off the iPad.

I, too, own a Galaxy S phone. I also happen to own an iPhone 4 and a iPad. So I speak from experience.

The Galaxy Tablet's email client is nowhere near anything like their phone version. Something of which I notice on my Galaxy phone.

The Galaxy Tablet's keyboard is nowhere near anything like their phone version.Something of which I notice on my Galaxy phone.

The Galaxy Tablet's browser is nowhere near anything like their phone version.Something of which I notice on my Galaxy phone.

In all cases, they're all exactly like the iPad. The same color scheme, the same dual pane interface in the email. Similar button placements.

In fact, they also use a 30-pin (PDMI) usb connector that has a striking similarity to the iPhone/iPod/iPad 30 pin proprietary cable.

Something is is seriously wrong with Samsung. There are too many "coincidental" similarities. Many argue that there are only so many ways to design a UI. Well, if you take the sum-of-its-parts, the copy of this-n-that scream rip-off or KIRF.

At least my Samsung Captivate doesn't look like an iPhone.

Here is an exercise for you.....take a piece of paper and draw the size screen on galaxy s...now try to draw a phone design around it that isn't bulky and see how many options you can come up with...square corners? Round corners? Seriously to be surprised most smart phones look similar iscrazy

Its not just the physical design. It is the sum of the whole experience. Some of the Euro galaxy's I've seen can delete apps by hold-press and all the icons have black corner x and they all jiggle. Just like the iPhone. You can move and re-order icons just like the iPhone.

The new Galaxy Tablet's email notification has the same iOS mail notification. It has a red circle in the upper left with white bold text number to show you how many mail you received. It doesn't even use the Android notification pull down. It makes a red dot on the email icon. Take a look on Engadget today and look at the video from Russia. Look at the email icon and the red notification. there are some things people can't make up. Reality hurts when you see such blatant rip-offs.

No other Android devices have these "coincidences"

Exactly. The SGS is essentially an Iphone 3G/S knockoff. The SGS was designed to look practically identical to an Iphone 3G/S and the interface is a clear mimicry as well.

I've never seen anything like that before on any other android device. Everything about a Droid X and HTC Evo for example is entirely different from any Iphone model.

The SGS is a blatant ripoff of the Iphone 3G/S, simply too many "coincidences" to sweep under the rug.

Funny. I only bought the Galaxy S because it looks like the iPhone, but with better features. I like Apple's hardware, but not their software.

You know, it is like dating a hot tranny. The rack may look good and the bod may be rocking but something downstairs doesn't seem right. It has that extra intangible that I'm not so inclined on checking out.

well said...

Don't get me wrong, I like the iphone myself and I don't mind that it looks like the iphone. maybe I love the iphone but hate the fact its apple and everything about that. So pretty much I have a phone thats "like" the iphone but way better in my own opinion on how I like a phone setup. Plus, I've always been a fan of samsung products anyways. I'd take this phone over a iphone any day.
