Help New to Android, getting Droid X, HELP!

First, a message to the mods... I just joined this site a while back, and am having difficulty finding any direct guidelines for posting a thread such as this, so please move my thread to the appropriate location if it is against policies, and email me letting me know where to find it...

Now, here's my slew of questions... I have been following the 'droid scene for a while, and have been jealous of all my friends and family who have been able to get an android phone before me. I have been well aware of the "eFuse" and rom restrictions on the Droid X, but I am wondering what that means to me...

When I get my Droid X, I would like to have a theme similar to this so that I don't have to be locked into the stock theme... I like the widget for HTC Sense with the weather and analog clock on the home screen. On top of all of this, I would also like to use the Wi_fi tethering sans VZW billing me for it...

Probably one of my main concerns is that I also have about 6 gigs of apps acquired from torrents that I would like to bring to the phone and use at will.

If anyone can address my concerns, and either point me to the threads which have the answers, or put into easy-to-understand words with what I should do to achieve me goals. I know that not everyone learned how to do these things the way I am asking, but figured I would give it a shot beings as I am VERY new to all this...

what phone do you have now if you wanna tranfer apps use appbrain. the droid x can be rooted now the efuse isnt really that big of a deal but im still new in that area.

There are torrent apps in the market place now. Might check it out to see what people are saying about them.
Android Market or AppBrain should have it.
Don't have a clue what they are or what they do but know I saw it last night.

Go to AppBrain and search "torrent" and slew of them will pop up.

That "theme" is just a 'normal' thing you can do with Android.

The top is Beautiful (or Fancy) Widget. That background is just a wallpaper picture and the bottom is....???

Hehe, I have the LG Dare... so I think I have no concerns there... This (the Droid X) will be my FIRST smartphone/android phone PERIOD.

So if that's the case, then why would "custom Roms" be a big deal? Again, I am new to this stuff... Also, am I to assume that you know nothing (like me) about how to change the theme of the appdrawer? (thingy at the bottom that you touch to view apps)

Themes can be changed when you acquire root access. There is an application called Universal Androot that will do this with one click. After that is done, you can add themes to your phone.

Custom ROMs are being worked on. Right now, there is a process for custom ROMs, there just aren't many ROMs out right now.

Tethering can be done for free after you acquire root access, or they can be done through paid apps like PDAnet.

Do you mean you've torrented 6gb of Android applications? Apps are cheap - support the developers. It's pretty petty and stupid to pirate $2 or $3 applications. There's a 24-hour trail period for apps where they can be returned for no cost to you. Use that and try apps, return them if you don't like them. The ones you like, pay for. Many/most of these developers are not members of large businesses that pay them salaries. They are subsisting off your direct purchases.

You're only hurting yourself in the long run - developers who don't get support stop developing. You can download all the apps you want but if the good developers aren't writing them, it doesn't help you.

Yes, I will admit that I have done this myself, and that I even aspire to develop some apps of my own which I would "hope" to gain royalties from, but I would be in full understanding of the chance that others would share it in a way that would circumvent paying for it. But I will also admit that I did this because I was fully unaware of the total ability to "try-before-you-buy" scheme that you say is available for even the paid apps. I was under the impression that it was a black and white ordeal with no grey area (which would be download the full app and delete if it didn't suit me).

This actually works out better for me, because I am a neat freak on my HDD and the existing duplicates from multiple torrents was causing me to twitch a little against my OCD, and I would rather download the app, if I liked it keep it and pay the small fee for the awesome service and convenience that they provide.

Again, I will say that I was not aware of this ease of use, and even had my verizon rep tell me that any apps I buy on the android marketplace follow me through whatever phone I upgrade to in the future, which again, makes my life easier. Thanks for this knowledge!
