OK - newbie question. I know the wireless hotspot is $30/mo. Is tethering "included???

Usb tethering is included but the wireless hotspot is $30 monthly.
Also check out "PDANet" in the Market.

don't get stuck on that. as i'm sure sprint/samsung removed that capability (they did for the evo and many other phones).

this download will give me something to do until the 31st.

Well, seeing as though that's in the actual user guide, I think it's safe to assume that Sprint (who released it) and Samsung (who created it) have allowed it to be as there are instructions on how to use it.

speaking from experience (multiple sprint device owner), don't count on it being available on the device itself just because it is in the manual.

edit: i'd loved to be proved wrong, though.

fyi, just cracked opened the user manual that came with the phone itself, and there is nothing about tethering or hotspot. this is not high priority for me right now, so i'm not going to try it out on the phone just yet. just so you know.

I was told by Sprint when the Evo came out that the hotspot can be started and stopped whenever you want - for example, if you are out of town for 3 days and want to use it for laptops while travelling you would only pay for those 3 days, so the cost is prorated. I think it is a fabulous thing to have - I wouldn't want to pay it all the time, but if you want it occasionally it isn't bad.
