Exchanged my Droid - loose screen

Hello! I exchanged my Droid yesterday because the screen was getting loose. It would click like a BB Storm, and I could slide one side up a quarter inch before the other side started moving.

I think it happened because I used a snap-on case. I got the case because I'm a clutz and I drop stuff a lot. I dropped the phone and the snap-on case broke. The spot that broke was a clip that held the case onto the screen. My thoughts are that it tweaked the slider when it broke. Kind of ironic.. I got the case to protect it and (I think) it's what ended up breaking it.

Old was 39/09 IIRC and new is 44/09. The new one crashed the first day (acore crashed), but after a restart, it's been ok since.

Anyone else think the case may have caused it? I see a few other people having loose screens, wonder if they used a case?

that is funny...lol...why wouldn't your thought be that the screen broke because you dropped it???

just because you have a thin plastic case on your phone doesn't make it indestructible.

My screen is pretty loose and I've never used a case. The screen clicking is driving me nuts. At first it was just the bottom left corner, but now it's the entire slider. Strange, because my slider still has nice resistance when being opened and closed. My friend's screen doesn't click, but his opens really easily in his pocket.

Got mine 11/7 and was approved last week by a VZW manager to have it replaced. Haven't yet, but I hope to this week.

Don't know but my Droid on the upper left corner clicks or is a little wobbly thus causing the click. Somehow I think it's related to the original sticker I removed that lined up with the keyboard... my solution was I had a spare PhantomSkinz so I cut a piece and skinned that side of the keyboard and no more wobbly. It may or may not be the cause, but still.. don't remove the original sticker... lol

I removed the orignal sticker on the back of the screen and my sliding didn't change at all. Still nice and tight. My friend whose slider is loose hasn't removed his sticker.

Well yeah, I didn't say that it wasn't also caused by the fall. I just think the case made it worse. The little piece that goes under the screen is all that broke. To break that little tab off between the screen and keyboard would take a lot of leverage...

Anyways, the new one is still doing well!

After using the plastic case, sold to me by Verizon, for a couple days, I removed the case to find a loose phone. I could tell, by feel, the strain placed on the phone, by the case, with every open and close of the phone. I expect to exchange the phone and return the case. I'm also wondering if the HTC Droid would be a better choice because of this problem.

My first phone was 44/09...I replaced it for reception issues, but the screen assembly was snug against the keyboard and very sturdy. My replacement was a 39/09, and was loose/clicked-when-pressed, right out of the box.

Hello all,

I ordered two droids, the first one was perfect, nice and tight, but the second one, the keyboard hinge was loose. I took it to the verizon store for a replacement, and the sales idiot did not understand what i was telling him or did not see the issue, i spoke to the manager and she understood what i was saying. So the manager told the sales rep to go get a new one. We opened the box and same issue, loose keyboard. I told him to go get another one and he hesitated but got another one. Same issue, this time the rep said he thinks that all the ones in the back are the same, but i said i had all day and i'll go through however many i need till i am happy, and the manager was very helpful and said ok. Finally, after 4 phones, we found one that was good. So now, my two cents to you, talk to a manager and be satisfied with your DROID.

I finally am and LOVE my droid.

PS, i have a feeling that this will be a big issue in the future, so be sure to have insurance.

I exchanged my Droid today for the same reason. The sliding worked fine, but it was loose enough closed that it clicked when causally tapping the screen. Mostly in the upper left(holding in portrait position, lower left in landscape). It was loose enough that I could hear it knock'n in my pocket when I walked.

The rep immediately acknowledged that it was defective, but I'd already messed with the 5 floor models and a couple were almost as bad. He seemed surprised, but was really cool about it. We opened a couple until I was happy. It seems they all rock a little if you press hard enough, but this one is way more solid. It only gives if I press pretty hard on the search haptic. Much better. :)

If it gets loose again through normal use I'll let it go and shut up. This is my first slider phone after all.

Anyway, if you're within the 30 days I say go swap it. I'm much happier. Maybe we are OCD freaks, but this freak is much happier.

edit:
Never bothered with a case and haven't dropped it. Yet. :)

I'm glad some of you are getting great service when it comes to loose screens in best buy. After the bad experience I had in folsom I went to roseville and was given my third droid. The folsom bb didn't see the screen they gave me as defective, so I took it to reseville and told them that it was shutting off every time I call people. That was a lie but when I also mentioned how my first phone despite the dust problem was tight the entire time I had it and the exchange I got 2 days ago was very loose she told me the same thing the folsom guy did. "They will all do that eventually and it needs room to slide" bullshit. You don't see people selling brand new nikes shoes that are worn out saying they they will all do that eventually.

I also have a loose screen. I've had my Droid all of 4 days. The staff at my local Verizon store put the case on for me and I suspect it's the clip on the bottom part of the case that pushes the screen slightly out of alignment. I've never dropped the unit and in every other respect, it's been great.

Also, being a Droid noob, I too would appreciate knowing how to check the version number of the unit, in case there's anything to that.

Thanks in advance!

Also, forgive me if this has been addressed in another thread... I searched and couldn't find it.. but I've already installed a bunch of apps, some free, some not and I'm wondering... do the apps follow me? How do you transfer your apps when you exchange your Droid? Thanks again.

The paid apps will follow your Google account - and "if" you go to privacy > settings > and check "Back up my settings", your free apps will follow you as well.
