Root what is the difference between HBOOT .77 and .79?

So, I downgraded to stock recovery to get the OTA2.2, I had problems doing so, but finally was able to get it to be stock recovery with s-off and running HBOOT .79, would I need .77 to get the OTA or no?
I can't remember, but I think I was on HBOOT .79 before I rooted in the first place so I think you would be fine.

Thanks for the 2nd grade subtraction math lesson.
As much as I'm sure you're kidding, and as much as it pains me to waste anymore space or time on this, I still feel the need to comment.
As humorous as you may find your lesson, I find it immature.
The point of these forums is to gain information... not clutter up threads with nonsense. All this does is make it harder for people to find "informative" posts inside threads, which in turns makes people open new threads that never should of been there, making it harder on the mods, by having to monitor more than needed. In a whole it just brings androidforums down as a community by making us look as I said, immature.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but at the same time a post to make people smile now and then never hurts anyone. By the time you got back to this thread the answer had already been posted. Read my post, roll your eyes and smile just a little, and continue reading. If I had written a three-page long post contributing nothing then I would agree. However a 3-character blip is hardly anything to get bothered by. Immature? Sure, but we can't take ourselves so seriously sometimes; after all, it's FRIDAY, man!!!

(Plus I have been getting really frustrated visiting the forums lately and seeing all the immature, redundant and repetitive posts/threads too, so figured I'd lighten the scene a little bit)

I am with ya. I understand if someone reads and doesn't understand something they read -just say so and ask the question. However, it is ridiculous how many people come and ask the same questions that have been answered and answered and answered right here in this very forum when all they have to do is get off their lazy butts (or maybe not, this can be done sitting down) and just take the time to search and read a little bit. Why do so many need so much spoon feeding. The thought that keeps coming back to me is that based on some of the repeated questions I'm seeing here, it is obvious to me that some of these folks should not have rooted their phones. That is my opinion, your's may vary.. so be it. Ok self, lighten up.. he's right.. It IS Friday!

Fair enough, "Fridays are always, fresh days.." -Shannon Hoon.
Like you both said, and I agree, too many bull crap threads, and that's half the reason I got so upset, I'm tried of actually have a valid question and not get answered, because it got lost in a bull crap thread. Basically I just didn't want to get off track, mostly my own fault, should have left it be what you said it was.

The answer was still never fully answered, he wasn't positive about it being .79 before hand, as I can't remember either I thought the same.

I'm also trying to figure out how to get back to stock recovery and S-ON.

seems I could get one or the other, but never both.. i couldget s-on but still have clockwork recovery, id try to run the RUU on my comp and it would fail, then id try to put the PB..IMG file on my sd card and it would say the main version is older.

Sort of on the topic of what you were doing, for some unknown reason, I decided that the best thing to do would be to flash .76 hboot with software 1.13.605.0, hoping that that update servers would be like wtf he doesnt even have ota #1 (from may). Then they would push the latest, cause well that would make sense. So far the phone is fine on old version, but even still, no updates for me - not even that ota#1...

Ya know what, when I was figuring out how to unroot, I was having issues, getting the phone to boot after applying the stock recovery, I did the OTA before the latest 2.1 OTA, which the latest 2.1 OTA is software 1.22.605.2, with hboot .79, and before finally getting here, I did the RUU that gave me the .77 hboot, and I noticed that the software was old, it was 1.22.605.0, and I wasn't prompted for an update either, I'm thinking this is normal?.. I am now on .79 hboot, with the latest 2.1 1.22.605.2, but ya ur right I never thought about it until you mentioned it. I wonder if it has to do with the update being rolled out and the servers are down or w.e, I hope so, and I do get the update.

I am NOT rooted but did manually install--via update.zip--the leaked OTA update back in July (not froyo leak but the one providing 720p video, wifi hotspot, etc.). My hboot version is.77 and radio is 2.05.

Do Need to some how downgrade, or revert back to a previous hboot or anything before I install the official Froyo OTA? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I'm not sure if I read that right, but I think you want to get the OTA?, if so, since you are not rooted, im not sure, but either way you need to get back to the stock recovery, and maybe even the stock radio, I would s-off so if you want to root you can, plus it's as easy as putting it back to s-on. but you would need to root first, run s-off, by unrevoked forever, then run the PB31IMG.zip to get back to stock.

that's were I'm at now, S-OFF, with .79 HBOOT, I don't think it matters whether it is .77, or .79, but if you do the PB31IMG.zip from the most recent 2.1 update from the RUU it will update your hboot to .79. if you need more assistance trying to figure all that out, (seems overwhelming, but you'll get it) just ask.

Shouldn't I have stock recovery? All I've done is install the leaked 2.1 update.zip from SD card via hboot? I never rooted and unrooted or messed with any other recovery.

I'm not so much worried that I won't get the update as I am bricking my phone while installing the update. I would think that since my radio is 2.05 and the official is 2.15, there shouldn't be any problem. And others have mentioned having .79 hboot and receiving and installing the official OTA without consequence.

I may just roll the dice and wait for the update. The only real reason I would want to root, would be to remove bloatware, so???

The whole brick from radio thing has gotten blown WAY outta proportion. you wont brick. from what ive heard its from flashing 2.15x radio over 2.15x radio, so you OTA wouldnt be flashing even if u had 2.15X radio but u have 2.05x so either way you are good.

and im not familiar with the whole leak thing, but if u boot into hboot, power off phone, then turn back on by holding vol. down and power till screen turns on and ull see ur hboot and all that, then vol down to get to recovery, and if its a red triangle, ur on stock recovery.

Yep, scrolled down to recovery and hit power button and got the red triangle. Now how do I get rid of the triangle and reboot my phone? None of the buttons are doing anything. Pull the battery?

Edit: Never mind got it. Vol up and power.

No the Verizon servers don't keep track of updates pushed. If they see your phone doesn't have the current software version then it pushes you to update. Every time I have reverted back to factory shipped software on any Android device once I booted up my phone within a half an hour asks me to update.

I had hboot .79, but I downgraded with some magical .77 ruu file I found somewhere on these great forms. I did this so that I could install cm6, which I now hate and I want to go back to stock rooted. I went to my nandroid backup, but it failed because of the wrong hboot. Yay. I think installing the stock android file as a pc.img, should do the trick, hopefully fixing my hboot in the process. Anyone know where I can grab a magical .79 ruu?

Whoa that was confusing haha. I think that the two are basically the same.. Do you know if you have S-OFF. you should get it. you can with 2.1 or 2.2. I can help you get back to stock. just fill me in on your current state of everything. go into HBOOT(power down, simultaneously hold vol. down and power button) then tell me your hboot, your s-off/s-on. radio, everything that is there and we'll get you taken care of.

I have Hboot .77 and I tried to upgrade to Hboot .92 which did work but then it would not come off the hboot screen. I ended up having to do a nandroid restore . I have s-off ,rooted with 2.15 radoi and am running skyraider 3.3.2 with a hydra kernel which was KK# 5 but I ended up making the switch after the restore because something was overheating the battery..109 degrees...still not sure what the root cause of the overheating but the phone went unresponsive to the point of a battery pull and putting it in front of a fan for 20 mins to cool it down enough to get into recovery. I am now running ok and time will tell if the hydra kernel helps things out. Please comment if you had these same issues and any fixes you may have come up with. Lovin Skyraider 3.3.2 and thanks to all the hard work that goes into this and all the other ROMS.
