Anyone here a Kindle owner?

No Kindle, but I do have Kindle for Android... I don't miss paper books. I always hated folding pages and then if you take them anywhere, they get all beat up.

Kratos

I love reading books far too much to be interested, a nice crisp page to turn keeps my interest alongside a great story. Not only that but books are the only thing I now have left to enjoy going shopping for. Enjoying the experience of buying it, holding it in my hands and taking the time to enjoy a nice relaxing coffee in and indie coffee house to read the first couple of chapters. Everything else I buy is digital and bought online with all electrical items to be delivered. An LCD screen also struggles to keep my attention for any length of time when it comes to reading text (playing games however is entirely different).

That's something I've been wondering. I haven't got an eBook reader (I am tempted but I don't know if I read enough to justify the cost), but I was wondering how the eink of the kindle compares to real life ink and paper.

I think the whole argument about cost is kind of a moot point now. $139 for the WiFi only version is still too much? Hmm. I do sync with the Kindle app on my Droid X and do some reading in a pinch but you can't beat e-ink. Very easy on the eyes. I don't know how anyone reads for any length of time on an iPad.

I think the other thing that some people fail to realize is that part of the value of owning an e-reader is that you no longer have to store hundreds, if not thousands of books in your home. If you barely read then maybe it's not for you, but if you read quite a bit then you will appreciate not having all those books lying around.

Once I started reading with the Kindle I never looked back. I know some people complain that it doesn't support ePub but you can easily convert the file with Calibre. Physical books are cool but I don't understand the whole fascination with them. I'm reading the story, not making love to the pulp.

I love reading books as well. What does that have to do with a Kindle? I take my Kindle to this great upscale outdoor mall near my home and read. Sometimes I go to Starbucks or Barnes and Noble to have some coffee while I read on it.

So basically the only thing I'm missing out on is waiting in line to buy a book, the sexual charge I could get from touching a piece of paper (O Face), and paying tax for the same book? I'm really missing out!

I kid, I kid. It's all good if you like physical books. I just don't get it myself.

E-Ink is wonderful for Reading, yes it has a slow refresh (at least my it's slow for my Sony) but you can read under a night light or Full Direct Sun Light without eye strain.

A normal screen like an iPad's can never hold a candle to e-ink. I'd love a Kindle, I really want to get back into reading like I did when I was younger.

E-Ink is still impressive up close too apparently: iPad and Kindle Screens Compared Under A Microscope

I have just placed my order for a Kindle 3.... I blame you guys :p

I've seen the Kindle and Sony e-readers in store and adverts, but I'm yet to see one in the wild; unlike the ubiquitous iPad that I see daily in the coffee shop/tube/train/airport etc. WHich is a shame, cause the quality of the screen with e-ink is superb, especially in comparison to the iPad in sunlight.

I read in the last couple of days that LG have a colour e-ink panel ready to release next year, can't wait to see the response time on that, hopefully it'll be useable in an Android/iOS tablet within a couple/three of years.

I certainly can't imagine bothering with an e-reader that can't be used in sunlight, and I can't justify one as an additional gadget.

Do have many leather-bound books? Does your apartment smell of rich mahogany?

Couldn't resist the Anchorman quote.....

Nah and even if it had mahogany right now it would still only smell of nappies and baby products ;) No don't have many leatherbound books but just the top shelf of my bookcase, again at the top because of the children :D

Yep, I own Kindle for Android. Why would you want to spend that much money for something when you can just get the free app for your phone that does the exact same thing??

It doesn't do the exact same thing. The screen on a proper e-reader is much better to read from, not to mention that I don't want to read a whole book from a ~3.7" screen.
