Also, when it lags try closing one app at a time with a task manager to see if it is a particular app.

Yea when we reach this stage we usually just root and get the best out of our phone.

dont think there are not lags in root, because there are. root will not promise no lag. I have root and a fast kernel and I, and many, get an annoying lag in 2.2

given the Droid 1 is getting phased out and the Droid X and Droid 2 are already slated to be phased out by early 2011 or so (seen in another thread), not sure a 3.0 will come for us. IIRC, but not 100% sure, these 2.2 pushes like FRG22D are the last we are getting.

for what you get in 2.2 and root, can't fathom going back to 2.1 because of some lag.. so yours must be pretty bad to even think want to.

I did the force update and it worked for a while, now it laggy, jumpy, and some of the stock apps crash at least once a day.

For rooting I meant stay rooted and upgrade to 3.0 if it becomes available. From doing some quick reading I'd just run a ROM that makes the phone a little quicker, I just want something that's going to piss me off whenever I use it.

FRG01B gave me some nasty lag occasionally when coming back to the lock screen after being idle ,really the only solution I could do to stop it was a reboot but it has been very smooth so far on the newest FRG22D much better than 01B at least on my handset

If you do this, please do some research first. Otherwise you will likely do something wrong, screw up your phone and have to ask for help in the root forum where the members are already starting to get a bit frustrated with the one-touch root applications.

Rooting is easier than it used to be, but it's still very easy to screw up the phone if you don't know what you are doing.

I noticed lag once I started running 2.2 also. I've been rooted for a long time now and currently use BB.4 with some other minor root modifications. One thing I noticed is that after I stopped using Launcher Pro my phone sped up considerably. It is still not perfect but I also have a lot more apps installed and even with apps to sd I still am using much more of the phones internal memory so that too could have something to do with it. Just curious if all of you are using either version of Launcher Pro and if so is it contributing to the lag issue on 2.2

I don't think it's an app I think it's just the update. I have a total of 4 apps on my phone and it lags like crazy. I've even went so far as to delete them all and it still didn't change anything. The other night the screen wouldn't even come on. I'd unlock it and the screen would stay black. My battery was at 3/4 charge, so it wasn't a low battery. It finally took a reboot to get the phone working again.

I hate 2.2 and would gladly go back to 2.1. I loved my phone and used it all the time. Now it just sits there because every time it lags I feel like throwing it against a wall.

Same thing happened with me but this frustration came with 2.2 ROM's after being rooted for 8 months. 2.2 killed me but I really also do suggest one click rooting, installing the custom recovery through ROM Manager, learning how to make backups and how to restore them manually. And then install CM6 with Slayher's 1.1 ghz kernel. I had to keep trying different ROM's and different ROM/Kernel combinations until I found the perfect one. This is definitely the smoothest 2.2 ROM out there. No screen redraws no lag. I love my droid again.

I'm not sure that BigDaddyCool really cares... they started the thread but haven't responded in the least to any of the suggestions or comments.

The rooted community has a lot of great info ( even for non-rooted users ) that could help us understand that sometimes things just don't go right from the start. There are a number of example posts where a user wiped and then flashed a new rom... had issues... then re-wiped and reflashed the very same rom and the issues were gone. There are equally a number of posts that show that rom A works great on user A's phone but another person can't get it to work properly so has to use a different rom before they find one that works without issues for them...

While several users have reported issues such as a lag or whatever, still the majority of users don't have any issues with it... The Froyo release is still the number one least laggy and most responsive release to date. The benchmarks seen ( not always a good way to judge ) so far blow away anything that previous releases had to make them almost seem antiquated from the git-go.

I think there are only two main directions for users with non-rooted phones to take when problems are seen.... They can take their phone into Verizon and have them reflash the non rooted rom... or they can choose to root the phone and try the various other roms that are freely available to see if those can help resolve the issues.

Just remember that rooting isn't for everyone... if you weren't considering it until this issue happened... perhaps having Verizon reflash it for you can resolve the issues is the best option for you...

If you do decide to try and resolve it yourself by rooting... read everthing you can first so you know what to expect... both good and bad... and then if another issue does arise you will have a better idea on how to proceed.

I have been considering rooting for a while now. Just never had a really good reason to. Not to mention I didnt want to have to setup all my apps and everything again.

Now after doing a hard reset that doesnt bother me anymore.


So now I think I have a good reason and may just take the plunge.....

Done correctly, rooting and making the necessary changes takes what, 20 minutes? 30?
Verses however long it takes to go to a Verizon store and exchange your Droid for a different phone...
I can understand frustration, but if that logic fails, then I must be very confused.

I'm not really trying to pick on DTM for making the statement... but I do want to point out how that statement isn't based on reality...

1st.. as mentioned, you don't have to root to have the problem corrected... take the phone into Verizon.

2nd.. the portion of the statement "that basically destroyed it" is an obvious exageration... These are great to help get rid of frustration but these can never help in getting a problem resolved and will often lead to actually getting improper suggestions given that can only waste your time... always try to describe your problem as accurately as you can and without emotion... or you will likely waste your time as well as anyone elses that may be trying to assist you.

Being naive and thinking it should never happen is foolish... getting mad when it happens stating that it's not your fault and thinking you shouldn't need to deal with it is ignoring the fact that it is actually no ones fault because these things do sometimes happen and doesn't automatically give you the right to act childish about it.
