Sell EVO for EPIC

I want to sell my EVO for an EPIC, but how do I go about doing so? If I can get $450 for mine + accessories on craigslist or something, then I would be left without a phone. As far as I can tell there are no cheap Sprint pay as you go phones to buy in the interim period of selling the EVO and buying the EPIC. I could go a day or two, but I don't want to sell my phone, then have to wait a week because they are all sold out. Any ideas?

Put the EVO up for sale and when you get a buyer just tell seller you will give it to them on the 31st of this month. Then go and reserve the epic now.

Sell your EVO on craigslist or eBay. I prefer craigslist so you get the cash the same day.

yeah what pablo said. if you sell it on eBay, you'll have to wait for the funds to be released and all that good stuff, depending on if you have a high rating or not. also, eBay will charge a fee % of whatever you sell it for which sucks

i'd put it up on craigslist if you want to be without a phone for the least amount of time and have cash in hand ready for the Epic.

Yeah I have it on Craigslist for $450 right now, but that's a good idea about holding it until the 31st. I called Sprint and they told me pre-orders were only for new activations, and Best Buy wants like $650 for it, so no pre-ordering there. I guess I'll have to get there bright and early

No, a dummy phone. However I have played with the Vibrant extensively so I'm familiar with the screen & OS.

I was more interested in comparing the physical dimensions and feel.

I have the Moment - it feels very bulky. The Epic is not much slimmer, to my surprise. The Evo is much slimmer, and with free Vlingo / advanced Android voice control, I really don't need a keyboard any more.

Here are some photos I took of the dummy phones back to back:

Bottom line is the Evo is much slimmer (in feel), the .3 inch vertical increase in screen size, and ~.15 - .2 inch horizontal increase in screen size is actualy significant, more than I would have guessed from just reading specs.

The Epic & Evo are about similar in width & height, but the Epic just feels like a very bulky phone.

Add the $50 to the price, I think I'm going with the Evo. This is especially as I have a Moment and am tired of a bulky phone. The keyboard is not worth it. I can always get a bluetooth keyboard separately if I REALLY need one...

Yea but that's personal choice only. I've always used cases with my phones, but with a large phone like the Evo I'll just put a Phantom Skinz on it and call it a day.

I prefer to use cases, but with these bigger phones it really doesn't make sense as it adds to the bulk as you say.

Apples to apples - Evo w/o case feels significantly thinner than Epic w/o case. And I get a larger screen (with Evo), which is important when it comes to watching video, or reading websites, ebooks etc...

Also, TouchWiz takes up real estate unnecessarily, which further reduces the available space, especially on the home screens, etc. Not a big fan of that.

Touchwiz adds the dock which you cannot remove, where as with the Evo there is no such thing. The icons are also not user replaceable, so you're stuck with what Samsung delivers, unlike Launcher Pro.

In addition, Samsung added a "screen indicator" showing you which screen you're on. It takes up almost an entire row of space, whereas on Launcher Pro the "screen indicator" is a flat bar near the bottom that takes up almost zero space.

So you're able to add less widgets, icons, etc, to the home screen, due to these two factors. The screen is already smaller than the Evo to begin with, and this makes the free space even smaller compared to the Evo.

I just don't like Touchwiz all that much to begin with, but these two negatives and I really hate Touchwiz. Yes you can add Launcher Pro on top, but then you're running 2 home screens on top of native Android, which further slows the phone down. Completely unnecessary.

Also I hate the "iPhone" icon feel of the apps, and when you view the apps, you scroll left to right, not the vertical that comes with default Android. It feels bizarre. This coming from someone who also has the iPhone... I just don't like it on Android.

So wouldn't just choosing vanilla Android the first time you hit "Home", then install launcher pro, be a better option? Yes, you'll still have the toggle buttons in the pull down, but everything else you don't like won't be there...

*edit* Also not trying to rag on you or anything, but you can tell from your pictures that the EVO, is slimmer not MUCH slimmer though. They use the same trick as Apple does in their iMacs, by tappering the edges you can fool the mind into thinking something is alot slimmer than in actuality.

Both devices are great, you'll be happy with the EVO!

Oh I also read somewhere that the Epic (all Galaxy S phones) will not have LED notifications...something that is lacking sorely on the Moment. {I could be wrong, as I have not played with the real Epic, but the Vibrant didn't have it}.

That is another major factor I'd choose the Evo.

It is stupid for Samsung to sell smart phones without LED notifications.

Perhaps...I'm not sure how intertwined Touchwiz is, in relation to the OS. It may be running processes even if you choose vanilla Android and install Launcher Pro.

I'm not sure. I just don't like bloatware that serves no purpose. Even if in the best case scenario Touchwiz has no impact on the performance... Just another negative in the list of negatives versus the competition.

Um... It doesn't really take up real estate because you still have access to 4x4 rows and columns on the homescreen just like every other Android phone. The dock takes up one row, just like all the other launchers. The screen indicator is bigger than normal, but it doesn't take up a whole row by itself.

I see what you mean now looking closer about the screen indicator. I never really noticed, and I can see how that could be seen as a negative feature. I don't like it either

Yup - Launcher Pro allows 5 icons...Samsung stupidly only allows 4 icons (which you cannot change!)... why?

I like at least to have: phone, contacts, browser, SMS, and another one of my choosing (maybe apps?).

Just more and more negatives...

It's not just those two things, it's everything added altogether that makes me prefer the Evo.

Here's my list:

1) much bulkier (this is my biggest beef, as I have the Moment and was hoping the Epic would be much slimmer - the Moment is a tank and just too bulky for my tastes, after using it for almost a year)
2) smaller screensize (in person the Evo's screen just seems so much bigger, and the phone feels slimmer)
3) $50 premium
4) Touchwiz
5) lack of HDMI port
6) Samsung's notorious lack of support for the Moment (and other Android phones, compared to HTC)

There may be a few more items I'm forgetting at the moment, but this tips my preference to the Evo, pretty significantly.

What makes you think that?

I have watched / read pretty much all the Evo and Epic videos / reviews, played with the Vibrant extensively in the stores. I also own a Samsung Android phone - the Moment. My #1 hobby right now is learning all I can about Android phones and devices. It's my addiction.

I am a gadget junky, and absorb all information so I can make the most informed decision.

It's not just playing with a toy. If you think that you're obviously trolling. I am very very well informed, even without having played with a live phone.

2) Size over quality, that is a personal preference. After looking at the Captivate next to an EVO my mind was made up.
3) Money is Money, can be saved by not doing something else, but alas that is also an opinion.
4) Can be turned off, and for the most part replaced. Or root and take it all off. It really isn't a deciding factor.
5) not confirmed yet, but it may be possible to do HDMI thru micro-usb. But good luck using it without being able to use different file types. EVO is severely limited in that department.
6) They are being extremely vocal and responsive on the Galaxy S line, already developing fixes for GPS on the Captivate/Vibrant only a month after their release. Take that as you wish.

Thanks for adding valuable info and discussion in this thread, unlike some others who cannot.

With regards to Evo being longer and wider - it was actually imperceptible in my opinion. The Evo is more square, but the utmost lengths / width of the phone was almost idential to the outermost width / lengths of the Epic. I initially thought too the Evo was longer and wider, but after comparing them back to back it was apparent they are almost identical in size, but the Evo just feels much slimmer.

And funny enough I did compare the Evo to the Captivate, as they had the models side by side. The Evo and Captivate actually are very similar in dimensions, at least width / lengthwise.

The Epic has LED notification and it has been shown in reviews.
