Root 2.2 Gallery... boo

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the 2.2 Gallery absolutely blows.

They added a very low quality gradient graphic to the background, the black looked MUCH better, sometimes it works okay, sometimes every 20 or so thumbnails fail to load, sometimes after taking pictures, going to the gallery and clicking on the thumbnails for them brings you to a black photo... gallery must be force quit for it to start working again.

Other issues: my phone fails to boot correctly sometimes, only happened twice, DROID logo stays stuck on the screen even though its fully butted, nothing can be done without seeing behind the DROID logo though, formatting cache didn't fix it one time, just kept rebooting it and it suddenly booted correctly.

Guess I can't complain installing a leaked version, hope the release is better.

Possible to delete the gallery app and revert to the previous version?

I'm rooted 2.2 with no major modifications, just Wifi Tether installed.

try installing the gallery 2.1 apk from here

If you installed the Deodexed Rooted Froyo clockwork image it might be why. I ran that and my gallery app was running poorly until i flashed back. I have since manually deodexed my phone and it is running flawlessly.

Ah, REAaally? Yeah I flashed the already done deodexed one, had to move the SU file location and flash, etc..

If i flash back to the 2.1 rom and go to the 2.2 non rooted and manually root it, will i still have all my user data?

You might have to install a fresh 2.2 over it or sbf back. I don't think you can go back to 2.1 from 2.2. I noticed when installing that deodexed rom that it benchmarked really high but had horrible performance.

I know but something else must have been modified because it ran so poorly.

Slow load time on everything, gallery as well as other apps would not load properly. After that I had no use for it. I am sure I could keep going but I figured I would stop wasting my time and try something else.

I'm with you, I hate the new gallery. It suffers from the same issue as the cooliris based gallery, that it only renders pictures in 16 bit color. Photos, especially ones with gradients (like the back ground) look terrible. I tried installing the 2.1 gallery, and no go. If anyone knows how to get the old 2d gallery back I would really appreciate it.

Edit: looks like I may be song about the 16 bit color thing... Wonder why the background is so ugly?
