I am not going to go overboard raving about the phone as I am just now getting used to it - 4 hours in as I picked up a used one from my local kijiji tonight at dinner time.
Coming from a faltering SE 810i (4 years old), which I love and will keep for my backup, I decided to stick with SE despite the naysayers.

Just like Carmen, I like what I first see.

I don't do social media at all, and don't take many pictures- I have a HD Sony camcorder for that...

I am currently running out my pay as you go from Rogers ~$20 left, and will get the bare bones (I'm a bit cheap) package- I think it is $30CDN...

Downloaded from what I can determine functional software from SE...

I paired it to my Pioneer Navi in the car and it works perfectly...

Currently looking to get it to work on my home wi-fi because I am not going to get a data plan (month-month)- I have access to it at work also, and the locations I work from, so I can spare the bare spots in between which are driving usually...

I have an iPod 80G for tunes, and my 810i for personal calls, and I carry a co. Cell. If this 32G microsd from SANDISK functions - as the fella from NZ posted- I can get almost all my music on it, use it as my personal cell and eliminate one device I carry.

As long as the base configuration (as determined by the software download from SE) is functional and doesn't hang or reboot, I am thinking it is doing all I need and ask of it.

Is it possible that one's impression of the phone might be [tainted/skewed] determined by what one "came from" and what one's expectations are?
I didn't pay full price for sure, so maybe my expectations are lowered. However so far so good...

your last two sentences spoke a lot

I think if you come from a platform where you are used to stability, it does lessen your liking of the android device
then you learn that you have to do this, this and that for it to work properly when your old platform did it better

So yeah i do agree with your last paragraph

Kind of like i am so used to Android that the way Apple does thing on the iphone, it's underwhelming and not impressive

Just gotta say I love my X10...no problems that are enough for me to complain about...battery is no better or worse than what it was on my nexus one...I guess the call volume could be a tad louder but not a big deal...just waiting for the 2.1 update.

That is probably the only major issue besides the lack of being able to change the keyboard that i hated...The ringtone volume is just so tinny/hollow sounding and i hated that

It almost sounded like the ringtones were recorded from the radio(Like we used to do before we had options of a market place to download apps)

I can understand that it is difficult to mount a larger speaker (bass is missing) because of literal space limitations- they need to keep the format compact as possible.
Larger speaker means more power drawn to drive the speaker, but it probably might be a worthwhile improvement.
Maybe they could have a chat with Bose.(Heh! ya so very likely)
It sounds no worse mind you than my SE 810i, and I have my ringtones in 384KHz mp3/acc.
I had my phone go from 94% at midnight to 88% 9 hours later when I got up. That's not bad in my opinion. I did turn off Bluetooth as I only need it for the car, and wasn't driving much from the bedroom.

BTW is there a way to put a shortcut to turning the bluetooth on from the desktop- like a one button touch instead of rolling through the settings?

Glad you are liking it so far, I'm 6 weeks in with mine and still loving it and still discovering new stuff each day!

On the Bluetooth front, yes you can use the systems quick settings widget but there is another option to save menu trolling for all sorts of things... try downloading the app Quick Settings from the market, it does what it says... quick control for all sorts - brightness; ringer on off; volume controls for media/ring/notification/alarm/voice call/system volume; bluetooth on/off; wi-fi on/off; gps on/off and lots of other bits you can configure onto the screen.

I was messing around with MediaScape last night. I am really impressed with some of the features in MS. You can download missing album art right on the phone. You can also click the infinity symbol and it will provide links to youtube videos. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
