So Joey helped me get persistant root this morning and I have been messing around with some root apps, and I thought I would share my findings so far:

OK, so here is what works so far:
AdFree Android (Free in Market)
Quick Boot (Free in Market)
Root Manager (Allows you remove sprint bloatware like Asphalt Demo, NFL, etc) (€1.99 in Market, approx $2.53 USD)
Shoot Me (Screenshot App) (Free in Market)
Root Explorer (

um theres no need to make a list of apps that work and apps that dont.... if its rooted ALL rooted apps should work, right? The tethering stuff is a little bit different, but titanium backup should work for sure. Make sure you have USB debugging enabled.

no not ALL apps will work some apps have different support for different phones

Not true, different apps work in different methods and some just dont work. For example, I was using an Evo with 2.2 Freshrom and AdFree Android would not work unless I push the HOSTS file in recovery. The app just could not replace the HOSTS file while booted up.

while i don't like ads either, its the main reason why so many apps on the marketplace are free. that's the only reason i wouldn't use adfree android. the developers need to get paid somehow, if not what incentive do they have to keep developing apps?
Well I do not feel like debating the merits of that post, isn't it kind of irrelivant. This thread was about root apps and which work or not. Not about the pro/cons of what you do with them.

I mean, you wouldnt take your motorcycle to the mechanic to debate helmet laws.

This root method is not that fluid yet. It would be better if a normal update.zip method would come out. So many people tried this and are not sure if they actually have full root access or root access at all.

and if and when a better method comes out I want to know if you can use the lag fixes made for the vibrant and original galaxy s. i really want 2000+ in the quadrant scores. phone will be even faster.

This root method is not a "full" root. There's still no engineering bootloader nor custom recovery. NAND remains locked. But all this will get addressed in time.

the wifi-tether app does work for the Evo, but there is some debate whether it can work with a rooted stock ROM or if it requires a modified/custom kernel. According to the application's site, it requires modification to the kernel.

It works with a stock Kernel. You have to update to the latest Root Tether App.
