I hate this phone for making and answering phone calls. for some reason i cannot make a phone call from the call history. Aren't you supposed to just be able to touch that person's name in the call history and it redials the number? i press it, i try pressing call, if i press too hard, i get another screen but not one that asks for to make a call.
it takes forever to make a darn phone call. when it doesn't work from the call history i try my favorites and pressing on the name but that also takes forever. is this something i should go into verizon for help with or just a quirk with the phone. i hate the phone because of this.

also i have a problem of when people call me, they say it rings 10 times, but i only hear one ring then it goes as a missed call. is there a solution to that?

Adjusting the slot cycle to a lower number will cause your device to poll the towers more often for incoming calls.

Dial ##778 then press CALL

Choose Edit mode

Type in password 000000 press OK

Go down to Modem Settings, select it.

Slot Cycle is at the top. Go into it and set to desired number.

When done, press MENU and pressCommit Modifications.

Phone will reboot after 10 seconds.

This will result in fewer rings heard by the caller.

My phone is rooted, so it may work a bit differently than yours.
If I press towards the left side of the persons name in call history the phone will initiate a call. If I press towards the right side (near the icon of the little index card) it brings up contact information. Try watching where you press to see if that makes a difference.

The slow dialing seems to be a 'function' of the phone, to my knowledge rooting is the only way to cure that. However you can make the lag time shorter by clearing your call history every now and then, and also clearing the cache on your programs. Now mind there will still be a lag, but maybe not quite so much. thetomlin has pointed you in the right direction to find out about rooting. There will be lots of info there to wade through, but in my opinion it's the right thing to do. Verizon will be no help, as they have no control over this particular problem.

And of course the ever wise Frisco has shown you how to make it so that your callers here fewer rings before you hear the first one.

I also experience redonculous and inconsistent behavior when trying to make calls. Just dialing a number is extraordinarily difficult sometimes, as the pressed numbers take up to five seconds to show on screen. Or, I think I hit the number but Eris doesn't think so. We argue about this a lot. I hit the back button, Eris is unresponsive and I hit it again, then it jumps back twice....
So rooting can cure this ill? I had decided not to root a while ago, thinking if my phone already behaves so poorly (laggy!!!!), then my tooling around with it may only make things worse...

What does one do when the screen goes totally black during a call? I frequently have this problem in phone-tree systems where I keep having to press numbers. When I take the phone away from my ear, I usually have to hold my thumb over the proximity sensor and remove it to turn the screen back on. But sometimes, especially on longer calls (as in, more than five minutes), the screen won't come back on. Help?

frisco -= when i do this, do i want a low number or a high number. mine was at 2 and i changed to 4. is that correct?
thanks

The lower the number, the more often your device will poll the towers for a signal.

Mine is set at 0.

Be sure to visit the thread about saving battery life, as that helps a lot when having your phone so busy checking for calls. ;)

(by the way, your post was not edited by me; I accidentally clicked "edit" instead of "reply" a minute ago, so the software here stamped that as an edit)
