i would venture to guess that is not an official site. the domain registar is not who either htc or vzw use.

I have my doubts too--the quality of that image isn't very good (look closely, it's very pixelated around the text--not very professional).

And the fact that this is up before any kind of official announcement from VZW is a bit strange. But on the other hand, this is exactly how the Droid stuff got started--a simple webpage with little to no info until the major advertising blitz started.

Also, the domain was registered back in September of this year. Pretty convenient.

like above, it very well may be a marketing ploy. if it were the registar makes no difference cause an outside firm does the marketing. also the domain is private, one thing that outs viral campaigns faster then anything is having your marketing firm info on the domain whois.

I'd say definitely fake. If you view the page source, it literally just contains:

...no doctype or body tags or anything. No legitimate company would ever put out something like that, even if they were just trying to throw something up.

If you go to htcdesire.com, it has more content, but was registered near the same time and has its owner protected by the same service. (the whois information looks identical except the dates).

htcdesire has a forum link that links here. It looks like a fan site.

Someone should contact Verizon or HTC about this website. They'll give you one of two responses: 1) yes it's bogus, or 2) can't confirm or deny. I mean, technically it has their logo which is trademarked. They could legally have it taken down.

Guys, srsly. This site has been online for quite a while....and has been shown to be fake, many times. It is beyond me how androidandme.com JUST found this and are actually reporting it as newsworthy.

Totally for crap journalism but in the best case it will put added pressure on htc/vzw to make some statements or leak SOMETHING about this phone.

OK, I know this "fake" website has gotten our attention again because some of the blogs have seen it now.

My question is, if this website was created on September 16, 2009, when was the 1st we heard of the HTC Dragon/Passion? The 1st I heard of it was the October 16th external picture release on Unlocker. The earliest article I can find is October 2nd DroidDog screen shot leak.

Also, here is Reignzone's post on the XDA forums talking about his leak.

Was there any news or leaks before October 2nd?
If not, with the website being created on Sept 16th, it may be legit.

Any input?
