I understand there are many who do not wish to root/nand unlock and manually update their phone. For ALL others I do not understand why there are any issues getting this update. I updated two Inc with zero issues and they have been running perfectly for days. Let me walk you through in case there is ANY confusion.

PLEASE NOTE I am not insulting anyones intelligence, I am sure most of you know this already and have completed the process, I just wanted to point others in the right direction.

- First things first, if you have not looked at the Verizon support page, please note the OTA is officially Build: 3.21.605.1/Baseband: 2.15.00.07.28

Sooooo......

- Thanks to rmk40 over at XDA, he released a rooted ROM built off the official HTC Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 release (pulled from signed RUU), which is being rolled out by Verizon via OTA as the final build. The OP is [ROM] Incredible Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 *Official Release* (100% stock, rooted) - xda-developers

This includes instructions as well as downloads for both Odexed and DeOdexed files. It will also link you to [GUIDES] Root, nand unlock, radio update, Froyo 2.2 update, Restore stock radio/rom - xda-developers, which walks you through any step you need to complete prior to installing official OTA.
---------------------What I did----------------------------->

I had two rooted incredible s with custom recovery

o Rooted the old fashion way
o Flashed Custom Recovery unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.14)*This roots too
o Nand unlock public:forever [RootWiki]
o Updated Radio to 2.15.00.07.28
o Applied ROM zip via clockwork

*****Please see OP dadicus for detailed instructions [GUIDES] Root, nand unlock, radio update, Froyo 2.2 update, Restore stock radio/rom - xda-developers

BOTH phones done in 20 minutes

For those concerned with being able to go back to stock, FEAR NOT!!!

Per dadicus.....

Section 5 "Restoring to stock rom and radio"

BELOW IS IF YOU DID ALL THE ABOVE AND WANT TO GO BACK ONLY

Step 1: Download this file: PB31IMG.zip

Step 2: Connect your phone to your computer.

Step 3: Save all of the files on your sdcard to a folder on your computer.

Step 4: Format your sdcard to fat32.

Step 5: Place the PB31IMG.zip file that you downloaded onto the sdcard in the bottom directory.

Step 6: Power off your phone.

Step 7: Hold the volume button down while pressing the power on button. (This will place you in HBOOT)

Step 8: HBOOT will find the file on the sdcard and ask if you wish to update with it. Answer yes. (Do not do this more than once)

Step 9: When it is finished updating reboot the phone.

You should now have a stock rom and radio, good if you are wanting to do am RMA.

SO.....Long story short, this is a piece of cake to update yourself and have control over what else you want to do. I know this is just reiterating what a lot of you already have done/know; however, it seems like a lot of confusion/mass chaos. Hope this helps to clear up some of that and convince some folks out there to go ahead with this update and forget the RUU route which seems to be giving people issues.

One additional Note: Quick boot makes getting into recovery or HBOOT a snap. Just an Oh By the Way.

NO, please see the post for the requirements, guide by dadicus. It is not complicated, but take your time to understand what you are doing before you leap. The guides walk you through it and make it a piece of cake.

General order,
1) Root and Custom Recovery unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.14)
2) Nand unlock public:forever [RootWiki]
3) Update Radio to 2.15.00.07.28
4) Apply ROM zip via clockwork
5) Enjoy new OFFICIAL 2.2 Froyo

Thx to TrevE over at XDA for this

Odex vs Deodex
====================
Theres plenty of debate over what is faster/better to use, im not going to take sides in this one. This is just information about what the differences in the two are, try for yourself.

Deodex basically takes the odex file and stuffs it into the apk as a classes.dex. First boot it dissembles the file into /dalvik-cache (i believe). Now there is basically 2 copies of the odex, one in the apk one in cache. This makes it "portable". This allows modders to work on the apks & easily change stuff. If you want themes or stuff like lockscreen fixes you MUST use Deodex.

Odex is how things come stock. It takes up less room but making modifications or taking apks from other roms is hard. You cannot use themes with this version!!

Okay this is awesome and easy, I used the Deodexed Virtuous rom... Its installing now.. Its so easy.

Everyone waiting should do this, you keep root and if you don't like it just wait for another rom off the official OTA if it does end up being different then this one.

Still testing it out, but I'm glad I have froyo now :)

why do you have to do the radio separate when the OTA updates the radio along with 2.2?

There are 2 ways to get to Official Froyo.

1. RUU (It wipes date, and installs froyo & radio for you with all the bloat ware) Will not give you root!

2. Flash Froyo rom (Turn s Off, You manually install radio, and Manually install ROM) You get Root.

[ROM] Virtuous v2.3 (8/29/10): Stock Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 w/Fixes & Enhancements - xda-developers

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760651

These 2 threads are all you need for option 2.

Will the RUU void my warranty? I have been having sporatic touch screen sensitivity issues and was hoping it would fix it, but if it does not I will need to send the phone in for replacement. Any thoughts?

wait for the official...any kind of rooting will void warranty until you go back to unrooted and stock.i would suggest you wait

Hi I just registered at this forum, but i have been reading around regarding the 2.2 OTA. Any how while I am tempted to do the update this way and to gain root, I am just not sure i fully understand what I am doing in the steps mentioned in the guide. Also would i be able to flash back to stock rom more than just once and would this rooted rom still let me receive OTAs?

If you don't fully understand, and are still not sure. Just don't the OTA will get to your phone eventually. Really I understand, and still sweat it when I do anything. LOL!
