Root DX- should I root now or wait till after official 2.2?

Greeting, I just got my Droid X up and running, and I really want to root so I can use the Cut Paste app. I am wondering, if I wait a week or two until the official 2.2 Froyo update comes out and upgrade to that, will I still be able to root the phone at that time?

I would root the phone now, but I am wondering, is the rooted 2.2 update still available online? If so, where?

I basically really want a rooted 2.2 and dont know what the best approach is, thanks for any help!

all he needs to do is install the bootstrap app and get rom manager and then he can either install the deodexed version you mentioned or get the rooted one straight from rom manager. No hard work required he can do it all from his phone in about 5 mins

I went to download the Bootstrap app, but it said I need to already be rooted, should I download it anyway?

What is the deodexed version? I have read several rooting articles but never came across this term.

I really want to do what is easiest and has the highest probably of success, this only gets more confusing, but I appreciate ya'lls help :)

so you have to upgrade, and not just keep 2.1?

Once the OTA comes though it has been confirmed that people have been able to root 2.2 via the D2 method..

well thats assuming that motorolla doesnt plug that root exploit at the last second before the ota. it seems like theyre playing an escalating game in regards to that.

i would assume and i could be completely wrong, that within a few days of the ota there will be an update.zip available to root users from one of the devs out there. im curious as to how big a leap the ota 2.2 will be from the current 2.2 build and how that will affect rom development currently going on; ie will the sapphire rom build and future roms stop being based off what we have or will they start over with the new 2.2...just curious
