i didn't mean to imply is was official or for the Captivate specifically - but there has been the feeling that MAYBE Samsung wouldn't exactly deliver in regard to an update, even though they've said they will.

so at least we can see that they are rolling out 2.2 for their european devices. i'd love froyo but i'm still amazed that there has been no update for our gps issues...that's where Samsung's attention should be right now.

Well apparently there are no gps issues whatsoever on the epic and fascinate, what i am hoping that samsung isnt hanging us out to dry with the captivate and vibrant where they dont put out an adequate gps fix

It was never samsung I was worried about they said upfront that the new line of galaxy s models would get froyo. Then they announced sept. Likely verizon, sprint and tmob will get thiers in a timely fashion. ATT will have to hack spit and butcher our version to hell first with their bloatware and bullshit before we are allowed to have it. I predict november.

However XDA will give us the vibrants well before hand we can load ourselves ;) F att.

I agree, AT&T is only worried about the Iphone 4 right now and they know with that update it will only make the Captivate more popular........ i think their waiting for the sales of the Iphone to die down some

Who cares about the 2.2 update? Only Android geeks who weren't going to buy an iPhone4 anyway. I don't see them delaying the update specifically to "boost" the iPhone... but that doesn't mean they'll be in any hurry to get it out the door either.

Of course, IF AT&T IS about to lose exclusivity on the iPhone, then they will want to boost their Android cred since Android seems to snowballing into the mainstream - or at least they would if they were smart.

That said, this is all speculation until Our Father, Steve Jobs The Magnificent, walks on stage and announces the best iPhone ever, now on Verizon.

I might be considered "Android geek", I don't know, but Froyo will bring a lot of good things, not sure why you're so down on it.

I just recently got an ipad as a gift at work and while I like it a lot, the Captivate screen resolution and color just blows it out of the water. Both devices have their strengths and weaknesses. Music apps (like guitar, drums, etc.) don't have the latency issues on the ipad that Android does. This is Android OS fault, not the Captivate though. I think eventually, Android will fix these issues (post Froyo probably).
