Real HDMI - Control HDMI Port on your Droid X

its only $1.99!!

he mentions that "It unfortunately doesn't allow mirroring of the display." (there has to be an update for this or a fix ASAP)

i just bought it and its deff one the best apps EVER made for android hands down. The only problem i see with it is that theres no display on the phone when its connected through the HDMI and its only displayed the TV. its kinda hard to pick/choose what you want by just guessing where the icon is on the phone screen. if any one has a solution for my problem, please post how to fix it.

thx in advance

shout outs to the developer!! (gman) good job on the app

Can't you just start up your game or movie or whatever, then plug in HDMI after you don't need to use the screen?

On your device screen you see the application settings for real Hdmi instead of what you're actually interacting with on the screen... very annoying. That said I only used it for a minute... maybe I didn't figures it out properly

It's really not that difficult to figure out where things are on the screen. Look at where the icons are positioned on the TV and they are in the same spot on the phone. If I am not sure about icon placement then I will scroll the icon to the very top of the TV screen and use that as a reference to where the icon is on the phone.

Chris - I did not try the blockbuster app because I have never used it. I will say that things like youtube, rockplayer, picture gallery, and the various game emulators work wonderfully. Videos look way better than I thought they would.

Overall I am extremely impressed!!

As long as I can play some donkey kong country and contra on my HD tv, while using Wiimote I'll be happy. Blockbuster would just be a nice bonus.

Oh one more question, what is the orientation on the TV? does it change with your screen or is it always landscape?

When I first installed the app every time I would turn the phone and change orientation the HDMI program would force close on me. An update stopped that from happening which was great. I am not sure how this is with other people but for me if I have the phone upright then the picture on the TV is sideways. It is like the program is trying to fit my entire phone desktop on the TV and the only way it can do it is to turn the upright video sideways. I hope that makes sense.

When I turn the phone on its side and the orientation of the phone changes everything looks as it should. The only way I can see this program being used (it its current revision anyway) is to keep the phone turned on its side. I have not tried my multimedia dock yet but I would imagine that will be the best way to use this program.

And yes Donkey Kong country and Contra would work wonderfully!

Hope this helps

nor is it hard to give away an app that is still very much a beta. if they want to charge me, i expect a higher level of functionality.

Believe me, I totally understand what you are saying and agree with you 100%. I just feel that if the program never gets an update ever again then it was still worth 2 bucks. Just being able to play the emulated games on my TV made it worth that. :D

Just bought mine, hopefully my cable gets here soon. BTW has anyone tested this with the blockbuster app.

How does it work? Does it just display anything on your screen on your TV instead? Glad we got this to actually make our HDMI usefully!!

I don't know if you've noticed, but Blockbuster movie quality is VERY low.. you don't notice it on the screen, but you will def. notice it stretched on a bigger screen, esp. a large flatcreen made for High-Def.

You wont really see Blockbuster be useful until THEY choose to allow HDMI output and have videos becoming HD... IMO

Is it safe to assume that this app outputs the same resolution as the DX screen?

That is, you can't currently use it as a portable 720p video player?

Well, It's hard to say.

It has about a 30% screen reduction. Otherwise, there is a black box around the screen. However, when playing videos in the Gallery or from Youtube (Anything that is 720p Quality) it does output in Fullscreen HD 720p.

This is the first app that I've bought actually. I wanted to support the guy. He's been updating it every couple of days and actually adding a feature or two here and there. If he can add the option to stretch the screen somehow, it would be awesome for watching videos.
bought, tried, returned...

i'll be back when mirroring/rotation are supported.
According to gman, the mirroring issue appears to be a hardware limitation. Unless someone pulls a Houdini and works some magic, it probably never will be supported. Motorola appears to have left out the ability to mirror the screen in general. They have the screen display the media controls when you use the default HDMI-out in your gallery, and the screen freezes. Notice how there aren't any button animations when you tap them to pause, play, etc. They give you this screen instead of simply mirroring what you're playing/viewing. I don't know if this is an issue they couldn't overcome, or if it's a simple hardware limitation that they're well aware of. The latter could be the case in an attempt to cut down on manufacturing costs. Now that I think of it, it would actually be pretty nice if the dev could somehow add the ability to bring up that menu when playing videos in other media players.

I would love to have mirroring too, but it's really not that hard to just look at where you're tapping and and figure it out. It's especially great for watching media that's unsupported by the default media gallery and requires something like Rock Player. I don't really want to bother converting everything all the time.

You cannot do that, edhgreatone.

#3 Why is my home screen sideways on the screen?

Well if you think about it your phone's display is 852high by 480 wide. So to display a portrait screen it has to be sidesways on your TV. Why its always portrait regardless of phone position.....I really don't know. Am just enabling output to the HDMI port not controlling how things are rendered.

I don't know why everyone is whining about about the screen being sideways, seriously, just turn your TV vertical...

No really, get LP and enable auto-rotation, problem solved. Can't believe some peps are calling this worthless when this was one of the BIGGEST gripes when we first saw the manual stating HDMI only works on your media before the phone even came out -

The ONLY problem I have is you can't see on your DX whats on the TV, unless I'm doing something wrong I have to guess where to press, buts no biggy - haven't "mis-pressed" anything yet.
