Root Easy guide to update to Galaxo or GAOSP!

ok I got another quastion, when you go to Nandroid backup you have 4 slots, I used 3 slots already however when I try to restore my backup it just restores the latest one. is there a way I can chose which backup to restore?

I think you delete all backups barring the one you want to restore.
That will ensure that NANDROID sees only one backup

Also you can restore backups made by recovery 4.6.3 using recovery 5.1
Just rename the backups to ensure that 'SLOT-1' is added to the beginning of the names of the backups madde by earlier recovery versions.

thanks, I appreciate it.

Theres one more thing I think you can do instead of removing the nandroid backups

To get back to old nandroids use recovery version 4.6.3 or 4.6.4
To get back to new Froyo nandroids use the new recovery V5.1.1

All you have to do is replace the respective RECTOOLS.tar.gz on the root of the internal memory ( ie 8 GB). Both these files are inside the Recovery zipped files.

can i install 1.6.3.4 like 1.6.3.3?

Most of it is the same. You can follow the guide (I was wondering if it was worth it to modify it to work with 1.6.3.4, I guess it would help some). You simply need to use the newer files (recovery and galaxo) and restore the gogole apps using another .zip applied in the recovery. You should understand if you follow the guide. ;)

i did it with galaxo 1.6.3.4 and new recovery, after android screen mobile goes black and i must pull battery?
help

Re-download the file again (sometimes this helps), in recovery do a wipe, fix permissions (just in case), install from any zip (Galaxo 1.6.3.4) and do the rest like in tutorial (after installing Galaxo you can try installing apps).

And more info about the phone would be nice. ;)

Hy!

I have a problem with the ADB drivers. I tried a lot of drivers around the net, but I can't find the working one.
My computer can't see the phone when it is in fastboot mode. I have a missing android 1.0 driver, but I can't install it from. I have tried Galaxy What can I do with it? I only see the yellow triangle, when the phone in fastboot mode, for 15 secs then reboot. I have tried EVERY drivers I think. My phone is working on normal mode, I can flash it to 1.6, but I can't change to Galaxo 1.6.x.x

i keep getting stuck in on the android screen after everything else went flawles....i`m really sad, i tried many combinations in the recovery mode, wipe/update/wipe/restore gapps/wipe/restart, and stuff like that...any solution, if i start again from the nandroid backup phase?will that work?

Re-download the Galaxo (which version do you want?), maybe it's a flawed download. Depending on which version of Galaxo you want, the corresponding recovery is needed.
Also the nandroid backup backs up the previous ROM (I'm guessing the Samsung one). So restoring it, will put you to square one.

Just a question. What does your computer see when your phone isn't in fastboot mode? Does it have Samsung stuff on it (like Samsung storage, modem...), without any adb interface device.
Also, I had the same problem so I searched for drivers, found it and installed it. Now it works flawless (I can't remember from where I get it, because I downloaded 3 different kinds (zip files) and only one worked).

fastboot is not a valid command name. nor is there an exe bat, or com file entitled 'fastboot'included with the sdk? how are people running the fastboot command when no such application exists.

I've followed the instructions to the letter. the phone has fastboot, that's fine, the sdk does not. at least not in the tools folder.

"'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command."

Downloaded latest android sdk for windows a few minutes before posting this.

What am I missing?

Well that's weird, I do have "fastboot.exe" in my tools folder. I just went on the official site to download it again (here), and it does have fastboot.exe in the tools folder. Maybe you downloaded the wrong one? This kind of stuff happens. ;)

Yeah. it turns out that I'm 'slow' and misunderstood the install directions on the android site. i have it now. New issue is that despite doing the nandroid back up, and re applying update.zip restoring g-apps, and wiping multiple times I can't get past the android screen. so now I need to figure out how to flash back to the original bell firmware.

Update (i've made multiple updates) i cried a bit and left my phone sitting there, and after about 45 minutes the screen finally came back (dunno why it took 45 minutes) but it seems to be working.

:D

I'm glad you got it sorted out. Don't worry about it, pretty much everybody here made some mistakes at one time or another.

And lots of people have trouble at the Android screen (including myself), all I can say is waiting and trying again will probably end up working, as you found out by yourself.

Me, yet again. i usually am on WiFi for any data related things but I"ve now noticed that I can't connect to the GRPS for data anymore. Does anyone know what, or if there's anything Bell Canada Customers can or should do to get data working again over the network?

I tried searching for combinations of 'bell, canada, grps, and data' Nothing seemingly relevant so far, hopefully I didn't miss anything.
