Squaretrade or Asurion

I had a question about the two

Asurion:
Cost: $6 monthly, $89 deductible
Coverage: Lost, stolen and accidental damage
Replacement phone: Refurbished phone

Squaretrade:
Cost: $114 for 2 years, $50 deductible
Coverage: Accidental plus manufacture warranty
Replacement phone: A check for $530 - $50 deductible

Edit:
If you file more than 2 claims in 2 years the Asurion is a better deal and if you tend to lose or get your phone stolen then Asurion is a better deal. If you're only going to make one claim in two years and aren't worry about losing or getting your phone stolen Squaretrade is a much better deal.

Two questions here:

1) Can you (or someone who knows the answer) please explain the logic behind the "2 claims in 2 years" statement? Does ST cancel your policy after a single claim or something?

2) You wrote that the replacement from ST is a $530 check minus the $50 deductible. I was under the impression that the policy is for $599.... I assumed they would be cutting a check for $549 ($599-$50). Please explain.

For asurion, the policy is automatically canceled after two claims.

Also, for replacement it is - new, refurbished, OR a equivalent phone. (their choice)

I have them and have filed a claim without issues.

the big difference for me was asurion covers loss and most other don't.

Thanks for the info. Anyone know if SquareTrade has a similar cancellation of insurance policy?

i would ask your home or renters insurance company to add your phone, which would be tons cheaper then those two companies, or save your money, and use whatever you would have spent (at least $164 bucks) on a replacement through craigslist

I hate phone insurance companies, and find them to be a waste of money

Hi, I just have a question. I live in an apartment building and a lot of robberies are taking place. I want to have my own renters insurance so I do not have to worry as much. Do you know roughly what the costs of renters insurance is?
