I dont know that anyone will be able to answer this as of now, but I'm sure someone will once tomorrow comes around.

I was wondering if the Epic lockscreen shows any indications of unread items (particular SMS text messages)? Also, if music is being played, does it show music controls on the lockscreen so that you dont have to unlock the screen and go to the music app before being able to control music?

No, those aspects from Captivate and Vibrant/ TouchWiz 3.0 have been removed on the Epic 4G.

There is another thread about this that goes into much more detail on this topic. I will attempt to find it for you.

I hate to link this thread as it contains alot of negativity, however there are details within it that you are looking for. You will have to skim through to get the actual information.

While the ouzzle piece may be gone there is still a very similar feature on the epic. If you have a message a box will appear on the unlock screen and you simply slide the unlock circle into this box amd it takes you directly to the message. Ill double check the music once I get some loded onto the phone and post.

Typing on my brand new epic by the way.

Just checked the music and there does not seem to be any thing for music on the lock screen.

I'm pretty sure there are custom Lock Screen apps that can add this on for you, if it's been removed on the Epic. I was discussing this with someone on the EVO forums, but just can't remember the name of the app off the top of my head. And from what I understand, that app allows you to customize the lock screen with whatever is most important to you, whether that's music widgets/messaging/email etc...

yeah in a week or so there will be stuff porter over from the other GalaxyS devices and all of that functionality will be restored.
very disappointing that so much great stuff was removed.

You think you're gonna keep the Epic or the Evo? I got to hold a dummy version at Best Buy yesterday. It's pretty darn thin for a phone with a full physical Qwerty, but still thicker than an EVO (now that I've gotten used to not having a physical qwerty). Even though they only list the phone at .06 mm thicker than the EVO, that's only from the center of the EVO. They don't factor in contours when listing the stats, so it's a little deceiving.

Nontheless, seems like the Epic will be very solid. Looking forward to picking it up and comparing.

yeah i figured as much. the Evo tapers off from center to the sides so it's not nearly as thick all around as the Epic.

i'm honestly not sure which one i'll keep. it will depend on a lot of factors. i've never had any type of slider before so that will be new to me. i really like taking photos with cellphones and the Evo takes amazing photos in low and high lit places. i think the Epic is a sexier phone, though, and before gaming on a cellphone didn't appeal to me but i've seen the Asphalt game demo'd a few times and thought it looked pretty cool. plus, all the video formats that it's compatible with is impressive.

it's really going to be a tough decision between the two tbh. i'll prob do my own comparison video and detail why i personally chose one over the other in the forums, but i think both phones appeal to slightly different audiences and therefore just because i pick one over the other doesn't mean someone else would make that same decision based on my opinion. at least i hope not.

You should download Asphault on the EVO. There's a free version that'll give you a good comparison between the two. I think it'll be better on the Epic, simply because the fps isn't limited. That's one thing that HTC completely failed on and I've been stalling on my hard reset that supposedly will fix the fragmentation (although, part of me feels it's the fps limitation).

Just realized, we're completely off topic. Sorry guys.

The app I was referring to that allows you customization on the lock screen is this:
