[TOOL] Move ANY app to SD - no root required! (Froyo only)

*If you run this patch all future app installs will be to the SD card (unless you reverse the patch). You can go to the application settings and move them back to the phone if you like. Existing installed apps are not automatically moved however.*

A tool has been released that even non-root users can run in less than a minute, and it will enable ANY app to be installed to the SD card, regardless of whether the developer has allowed it or not. I do not work for androidblog.it, I didn't invent the tool, I just found it.

Just download the .exe, run it, plug in phone, and press 1 to install the patch. For me at least, the program said "no USB device found" but it actually still worked. After that every app on your phone will be able to be moved to the SD card, and all future app installs will be to the SD card. Keep in mind that live wallpapers, widgets, task killers, etc. should NOT be moved to the SD card. Also you need Froyo of course. The process is also reversible, so you can move the apps you want to, and then revert back (which is what i did).

I have verified the patch and the reversible works successfully on my Froyo Inc. I was able to move a bunch of large games to the SD card that I previously could not, and they work fine afterwards.

I know what App2SD is of course, but I'm not sure what the benefits are. I'm not running low on internal memory or anywhere close to it (6 gb free out of 8). Would someone like me benefit from something like this and if so, how?

Well first of all, your apps are not on the 8gig partition. That is internal phone storage for pics and movies and stuff. You only have the 748MB phone memory for apps. However that is still a lot. It's just an option if anyone wants to move a bunch of 20-30MB games off the phone so that they aren't using the space.

i have not yet received the OTA, and i'm waiting until i received it. I see no need for the RUU. Anyways, can anyone with the OTA installed verify if we can now use the 8gigs of internal memory for any apps/games? Is it possible to move them to that as you would to the SD card or install new apps onto those 8gigs? Thx. :)

Nope, you can not do that. They either go into the partitioned portion of the internal drive (where they have always been) or to the SD card.

My camera (stock app) saves pics directly to the SD card to begin with.

It seems logical to me that the internal storage should be for storage of pics, music, video and files that the phones apps create. Because the internal storage should in theory be faster than external storage, that seems like a good use. The SD card is extra storage kind of like an external hard drive connected to a computer. The SD card could be used as a backup for the internal storage so that in the event of a problem, your data is safe. Because this is a "newer concept", I don't think many devs have taken the opportunity to utilize the internal storage. Plus there are still plenty of older phones out there that could not use a particular app if the code was not written to use internal storage. It's really another sign that even though android is growing by leaps and bounds, there is not a lot of commonality in how the OS is utilized between the phone manufacturers and app developers. Growing pains.....

So then what is the purpose of the 8 gb internal storage? I already had one DI fail and lost those pictures that were on the phone. When the phone fails, you cant access that media.

Because it's nice to have extra space?

Here's what I do...

I save all camera pics and camcorder video's to the SD. This is because I am paranoid that my phone will fail before I do a backup and I won't be able to recover them (even though it's never personally happened to me).

I keep everything else on the phone storage. All my MP3's, all my ringtones, all my wallpapers and custom icons and so on etc. Those things are all backed up on my computer (in fact, they all come from my computer to start with) so I am not worried about losing them.

Between the phones storage and my 16gig SD card, I will never run out of room. I am sure I could if I tried, like putting a ton of movies on there or adding my entire music library. But I just don't use my phone that way.
