Help The very UN-official how do I go from the RUU to update.zip... i.e. getting back to stock?

Well... finally couldn't take it any longer and installed the RUU... then hours later I hear that the Official update.zip is slightly different with a change to gmail (and frankly, at this point, who knows what else.)

Also I am seeing "make sure you have the correct "baseband"(?)

So... for me and I would imagine a few others... can someone please help a brother out and make this a nice clean and complete how to get from RUU to update.zip thread? I have seen a lot of bits and pieces of what it takes... maybe it would be nice to have thread dedicated to it.

Thank you very much in advance

RUU and upgrade.zip are EXACTLY the same build number and all no need to go from RUU to Upgrade.zip

Please read the question/request again and if you have an answer that fits the thread (especially since your not on topic answer has been proven inaccurate concerning gmail) then feel free to add to the discussion.

The question was NOT "do I need to switch to update.zip"

The question IS "how do I upgrade to update.zip from RUU"

I posted in another thread asking for people with either version to post screenshots of their GMAIL to try and compare the differences.

If all else fails, I have a friend with the official OTA and if he can later, he will come over and I will install the rooted RUU update and compare the two installs side by side.

I will keep everyone posted should I find anything.

Again though, in the meantime it would save me a lot of headache if we could just get two screenshots, one of the Official OTA or Update.zip and one of the RUU.

Why would you want to it's the same look a post 5930 and compare to RUU it's the same.

I thought gmail was different. I may have even started this rumor haha! But I sticks to my story! And if I'm wrong, what can I say, I'm a j**k-off. haha!

Yeah, it WAS you, lol!! ;)
I wouldn't worry about it pal, I am sure we will all get to the bottom of this within the week!

P.S. To the OP, If you installed the RUU from your PC as an EXE and did not install it from ROOT, there is most likely no way to switch it at this point. I could very well be wrong, but similar issues went on with the Eris a few months ago and there was no way to go back!

Why do you continually try to change the subject?

The subject is "How to go from RUU to update.zip" and the reasons for doing so have already been mentioned...

BUT LET'S JUST SAY THERE IS NO REASON

I just want to go to update.zip.... just for the heck of it.

Do you know how to help? If not... then at least quit arguing the point.

Check out XDA forums, I saw a thread over there about it.

FYI, the method used was MUCH more complicated from what I remember reading about. I'm talking brick your phone complicated.

that said the gentleman who your getting snotty with is VERY much on topic. you EXPLICITLY stated in your OP that you were concerned that the RUU and the update.zip were different...

There not so get off the pole you got shoved where it doesn't belong

Thank You Crash I was answering his question about the two being different. Now to try to answer the OP's supposed real question, I do no think you can overwrite ROM;s that are the same (I read that some where on here).

the RUU IS a Verizon signed exe it was designed specifically to upgrade stock phone. infact you can't use it without being stock(except for s-off)

Hence my distinction! ;)
There were components pulled from that RUU that rooters has installed.
I am trying to make sure it is clear to ALL, not just those who know the difference.
