My captivate has this weird glitch where whenever I try to reply to a text from a specific number, it returns an error that it needs a 10-digit phone number. It only glitches when I'm trying to reply to a message from him, so I can send messages just fine if I delete the conversation.

My previous phone didn't have the problem, and my buddy says nobody else has either. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with that when I first created the contact and tried to send a message, I only used the 7 digits. I've tried switching from the stock messaging to chomp sms, with no result. any other ideas?

Don't know if you have tried this or not...
1) remove number/contact and add it again to phone
a. add it to phone trying the 1 + area code + number format
2) reset phone to factory and start over

Kind of random that it is just this one number.

I did try removing the contact and putting it back in with the +1, no luck. :|

Where is the factory reset?

hit settings then privacy. You will see factory data reset.

You will LOSE EVERYTHING. apps and all. if you don't have much then i wouldn't worry about it. Or you can download "App Brain" from the market and get an account created at appbrain.com. What this does is allow you to basically sync all your apps(not the login & data, just the apps) to the app brain account. then when you restore everything on the phone, just redownload app brain, login, and start downloading all your apps again without having to manually search for each one in the market. It will save some time.
