Root trouble with ota update with rooted incredible

I recieved the ota update this morning and tried to install. while the phone did its thing with the power off i would get an exclamation point and with any button press would bring me into clockwork. I have no idea how to get the 2.2 update working and upon reboot of the phone i go to setting and check for software updates and am told it is up to date. If i go to the about phone section I am still running 2.1update1. Is it because my phone is rooted that I can not update? I do not care for root capabilities as my friend did it for me and wireless tether can be done natively. I have done a factory reset twice now but i can not get this froyo update to work. Help?

Sorry for the bad typing I am in a rush to get this thread out before i go to class

You need stock recovery to complete the update. I assume you have clockworkmod since you are rooted.

EDIT: http://adrynalyne.us/?p=41 file to flash the stock recovery is there courtesy of andrynalyne. Just put in on your sd and boot into hboot with power down and power button. Should update from there.

EDIT2: The OTA will unroot you. if you do not care, then go ahead. If you do, unrevoked forever will save you.

I clicked on the link from my phone and downloaded the zip file to my SD card the zip was in downloads then I moved it to the root via astro file manager. Then I powered off my phone and booted into Hboot. Hboot did its thing and it showed the zip but says "no image". I didn't do any mods other than root I just used the tether. Did I do it wrong?

Make sure its on the sdcard and not the phone memory.

Also you NEED to make sure the sdcard is formatted in fat32 not plain fat.

also try downloading on the PC and transferring it to the root of the sdcard over usb

It was the FAT32. I formatted my SD card placed that zip on the root of my SD and booted in Hboot and it was that easy! Now...Hope I get the FROYO update any way to get the update pushed?

The link that was provided does NOT work. Its only 3.2mB, and the real one that I used to get back to stock was ~140.

You can get it using one of the mirrors in this thread. It also provides full instructions: http://androidforums.com/incredible...ideo-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html

used this thread to get back to old software. had to reformat to fat32 to make it work.

Went to software update and it says im up to date so i guess i just have to wait for the push.......again......for the third time

so you have gotten the push more than once? Did you have to do anything or did it just come threw? I tried the OTA at 830am and its 7pm and I still haven't gotten anything.

The link I provided? It is not a rom or anything, just the recovery image. Which IIRC is pretty light. Also, I would trust adrynalyne to know what he is doing. I think you are confusing a recovery image with a whole stock ROM zip

Nope. I had a rooted 2.1, which I had to get to unrooted. I downloaded the file from the link that you got from adrynalyne, tried to load that, and it would inspect it, but would not load it. I then looked at the unroot video thread, and downloaded the file from there, and it loaded. I now have a unrooted stock recovery image, so when I finally do get the OTA, I will be good to go.

Also, if anyone does get the OTA notice again, please please please upload the update.zip.

Edit: That may be a whole stock ROM (I really don't know, it has the same file name as the one you provided and is also .zip), but that was the only way I could find to get back the stock recovery image. Either way, the link that you got from adrynalyne did not work.

edit/ ok so apparently the manual update will not work if u unroot from root because it will bring u back to stock before the ota may update.

if ure software number is 1.22.605.0 it will not work u must run the may ota to bring it to 1.22.605.2

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7933281

use the first link not the megaupload one.

now i will try a manual froyo update and get back to the thread.

I can vouch with the poster before me. If you fully downgrade you have to manually download the May OTA, install that, and then install the new update.zip you can get straight from google.

It took me hours last night, thinking my phone was bricked again, so I did a full wipe//downgrade//upgrade//wipe and now I have some FROYO, but have to manually restore all of my apps again and enter in user data.

go to the first link on this page and follow the directions straight. as long as you have 1.22.605.2 at this point all you dois

plug the phone into the pc and set it as a disk drive

if the sdcard is formatted in FAT not FAT32 then u will need to reformat in FAT32 with 1024 allocation. this will wipe your card.

place the zip in the root folder of the sdcard and rename it update.zip

turn off the phone and turn it on while holding volume down.

go into recovery and then u will see a phone with exclamation point.

at this point press the volume up and power button.

after this press apply sdcard update and from there u should be good to go.

once the phone reboots and you hear the robotic "droid" you are good to go.

I have the same problem. Any way someone could make a step by step post on how to go from root and clockwork mod to froyo? I would appreciate it and it would help a lot of us out

use this thread to unroot.^^^

Spent some time trying all of the different alternatives without much luck. I found that reverting using the video in the thread always put me at a point where I could not get OTA to be invoked, while restoring to Nandroid backup always put me in a state where the OTA would download but on reboot the update wouldn't stick.

I used unrevoked to root and don't recall whether I did a backup prior using some other program or whether unrevoked initiated a backup, but it seems as if I had a backup pre-root. So here are the steps that I went through which brought me to Froyo without having to fall into the abyss of a full wipe and therefore ended in a fairly painless recovery.

1) Install update.zip to root of SD card
Manually Update DROID Incredible to Android 2.2 | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

2) Run unrevoked - this brings you to clockwork mod screen

3) Select Nandroid and locate your backup. Restore from your backup that was pre-root.

4) Once the restore is complete run update.zip which applies Froyo

5) Reboot

Only did this once, so I am sure others can fill in further details as they try this and other methods out.

Good luck!
