HD Voice

So many of you may have noticed Orange announcing their 'HD Voice' service today but I was just wondering what everyone actually thinks of it? So far it seems only 3 handsets are ready for this 'new technology' but will it ever take off? Is it even something that interests you? If you haven't seen it yet just google HD Voice or have a look here.

And why do you need a new handset come to think of it? As I understand it, the enchanced audio quality is due it being transferred over a 3G network, so why can't all 3G capable phones make use of it? It's free apparenty and available to everyone on Orange with a compatible handset, I guess we just have to hope the Desire is on that list!

sounds like marketing spiel to me. The buzz word at present is HD, seems to be bounded around all over the place.

Anything to sell a few more phones to discerning punters.

Well by the sounds of things the bandwidth is much wider so it should, in theory, provide a clearly audible increase in clarity. Having said that you could put a full 20-20k signal through it but if the codecs aren't up to scratch or the speaker is s**t then it isn't going to make a difference.

I would like to try it out though, see for myself whether the quality is any good. There are much more gimmicky things around though to be fair to them... FaceTime is an example that springs to mind.

Agree FaceTime is definitely a gimmick.
