hi all x10ers. well i am enjoying the phone a lot even coming from iphone. one thing that is bugging me now is that in the last couple of days the data useage has gone off the charts. i am talking 44MB in one day where i hardly used it. all the apps are set to manual refresh. there is nothing running (that i can find) that would use data like that. location service is off. GPS is off. EVERYTHING IS OFF!!! but even on the hour drive home from work today it used nearly 4MB. WTF. i am thinking of getting rid of the phone if it is just going to become a headache.

has any one else had this problem. i am on the ROgers network and there tech support was HOPELESS!!!!!!! oh yea i have a task killer killing all unwanted regular running apps..

DESPERATE PLEASE HELP,,,,, i dont want to have to pay out for an iphone4!!!!!!

What about an app... something like Data on Demand so it switches off your connection when the phone is in standby mode. Its a bit of a sticking plaster because something on your phone is connecting and using up your data.

Or something along the lines of a data monitor to try and pin down which function is staying awake and eating up the mb's.

I have no idea what eats the data on this phone, and my data icon always shows some activity when I have all apps that use data turned off.

But I have 3gb of data a month and can use the while lot up, but I do run all apps that sync on update every 30 minutes including push mail for 3 accounts I run 2 business's 1 that requires live weather updates my hobby uses the wind so weather again. I also moderate a kite forum and pimp 1 business on facebook so that's more data and then there is the data I use for personal use, that includes watching bbc iplayer downloading music from spotify and of course being a bloke I found an app that lets you watch porn from the likes of xtube.

Also I don't have wifi at home and work from home, so I know why I can go through 3gb a month.

I am having the same problem. To me it seems like simply a really poor design in terms of data management.

I've had an iPhone 3g for almost 2 years. I have a 500MB/month plan with Rogers and I have NEVER used more than 200MB in an entire month and I was using my phone constantly throughout the day. (no youtube, but constant browsing, email, news apps, etc)

I just got an Xperia X10 and installed 3g Watchdog to see how much data is being transmitted. I've had the watchdog installed for 15 minutes and I put my phone down on my desk and have done nothing. It has 3 push imap accounts.

My phone has used over 1MB of data in the less than 15 minutes while it sat on my desk. That is ridiculous.

It's now been about 1 hour since I started monitoring data usage.

My phone has sent/uploaded over 10MB in 1 hour and it has done nothing but sit idle on my desk. This is ridiculous!

Switching my sim back to my iPhone and selling the x10. If i have to do 5 million things and install other apps just to monitor data usage then it's not worth it. If I have to disable 3g every time Im not using my phone then obviously the phone is not ready to be used.

Hey thanks for that! I'll install 3G Watchdog I didn't know there was such an app.

I'm also with Rogers' generous 500 MB plan... and since their My Account app doesn't work for data and their website either, that will be my only option!

Ha, just checked this months usage and I'm rocking it at 1630mb but like I said I don't have home wifi but I have used 512mb over wifi too.

I don't see anything wrong with turning my data off when I'm not using it but I can't use a widget since rooting as I hit the widget the data turns off yet it comes back on 10 seconds later. So have to switch it in the menu.

I just downloaded it as well, coming from BB the data usage on this kind of scares me.

Question, what upgrade interval is recommended and how much battery does it use (another shocker after having BBs)?

Thanks much.

I know this is an odd reply, but give it time - it will get better. I too am on Rogers, and I almost had a stroke for the first month I had it. 50, 60, 110 mb in a day. I couldn't figure it out!

Then I trimmed down some apps (not lot though, I didnt cripple it) and I turned off timescape all together (it is not as cool as you think once you have it for a few weeks). I waited the ridiculous month that Rogers makes you wait for the My account app to work for data. I realized a few things:

1) When it is new you bang through a TON of data. Probably a lot of it is playing with the features much more than you would when you are used to it.

2) The Rogers app is more accurate for watching data usage than 3rd party apps are. I use wifi at home, and all the ones I tried got confused and recorded wifi usage as 3g. Rogers did not have this problem.

I started with the 500mb plan, and in a panic raised i to 1gb for $5 more a month. My moth ends on the 3rd, and as of now I have used 350.7 mb this month. There is no way I will be able to even come close to using what I paid for let alone going over for the month. I use push mail, poll mail every 15 min for 2 other accounts, weather updates on my beautiful weather widget, twitter and facebook updates on manual but I still end up checking every hour at least, sometimes every15 min. I browse the web a moderate amount, download apps over 3g, and use newsrob like a junkie :)

Don't panic, hold tight and see where it goes.

As for being too manual to turn things on and off all the time, I agree whole heatedly. If it is too much work always fussing over your phone it is not any fun.

And this phone is FUN :)

Good luck!

I don't use TimeScape, but I'm on Facebook. But I don't need to be updated every 15 minutes, so I just set it to "Never update", and I do it manually.

As for e-mails, I use Gmail with autosync, it won't sync until you receive or send an e-mail.

Nothing else I use requires syncing, at least that I can think of.

Wah! Wah! Wah! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

I can't say much right now since i have a 2 month unlimited data plan, but i don't think i'll eat much since i don't use timescape, or any social apps, just my banking app and a few games that some i wonder why they need access to internet (highscore?), anyway. Of course it's the first few weeks craze about getting apps and stuff, but after, it will just be used as a phone (not a gameboy or browser). My only concern is about the google navi
