Samsung Fascinate Shows Up On Galaxy S website, Handset Spotted In The Wild

Very Nice...thanks for posting the video! Does it stink that that we have to download Google Maps... yes, but not a big deal. Does it stink that out of the box Google Search will not be functional... yes, but if this is indeed the case, I have not doubt some developer will crack that soon after the release as well. Looking forward to picking mine up next week!

I asked the Geek in the comments section how the battery life is. He said that so far it has outlasted his Droid 2 and Droid X. I am surprised about it outlasting the Droid 2 since that is running Froyo which is supposed to enhance the battery.

If this is really true, I am pretty pumped which is why I left that reply to his reply. Lmao.

"After playing with it we did find that you can download Google Maps, but you will be using Bing as your search."
"One of the big arguements was the Onboard memory. It is verified at 512MB Flash/384MB RAM with 2GB internal memory."
YouTube - Samsung Fascinate Hands On!!!

Is it just me or did he actually say memory was indeed 512. I didn't hear 384 anywhere..pls correct me if I'm wrong.

for bing search, can't you just download the google search bar from the market, go to settings>applications and clear bing as being the default for search, then put google search as the default?

NO, verizon has locked the phone to prevent this. You will have to root the phone. Google is typically integrated into the OS and is more then the simple widget, and likely VZW has broken this and integrated Bing. I suspect it may require a custom ROM and root.

I know people are complaining about everything i know personally i cannot wait to get a hold of this phone and if all these people hate it so bad well then that makes it easier for me to get one come release day lol. The phone still looks awesome and with root will make it even better then if you hate bing so much you can remove it and never have to worry about it. And the fact that it isnt locked down will make it that much easier to root just like the rest of the galaxy s line.

Yup, I am sold too. Bing or not, 512 RAM or not. Whatever amount of actual RAM it has, the early hands-on reports seem to indicate it's very fast, so I am not worried. I am definitely looking forward to the release.

hey just look at it this way if none of these people want it we will be able to easily get a hold of one on launch day lol. Not to mention the ease of rooting this phone+custom roms will make the phone even sweeter then it is now if you dont like bing and all that. From the review it looks really fast and has pretty good benchmarks that will only improve once 2.2 is released for it.

What amazes me is how many people are criticizing the Fascinate because of the RAM thing. Whatever the amount, it's exactly the same as all of the other Galaxy S phones, and I've never heard anybody mention that as an issue with any of them.

As for Bing ... I'll admit that I wish Verizon had left Google search as the default, but you know what? I'm going to give it a try, and if it finds what I'm searching for, that's all I care about.

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, it is so out-of-focus. I just cannot understand how hard it is to get the camera to focus on the phone?!?! Or this guy is a total amateur on camera? Having to do it quickly is not a good excuse in my humble opinion.

It seems that we cannot download Google Search without rooting the phone. I am not planning to root my phone. Mobile phone is not my line of business and it does not pay my bills. Therefore, I don't have time to troubleshoot it. But I don't see a big problem for not having the Google Search widget. I can simply put Google as my default home page on my web browser and do my search from there. So it is really not a big deal. Yes, I may not be able to do voice search, but again, not a big deal to me.
