Warranty Replacement for Droid 1---What did they tell you and what did they send you.

I have been having some issues with my droid, so I finally called verizon and they are sending a warranty replacement. I have seen several people posting that they are getting D2, Dx or the incredible. They assured me that they have the D1 refurbs in stock and that is what I will get tomorrow. What have they told you and what did they actually send you?

I called last night to have a replacement sent due to screen problems deemed worthy of replacement by VZW techs at a corporate store. The lady told me they would ship a D1 refurb but they were on backorder with a leadtime of 48-72 hours.

I'll let you know what happens.

I went in for a warranty replacement on 8/24 because of some hardware issues I was having. They said I would have a replacement on Friday since it wouldn't ship until Wednesday (It was after 5:00 when I went in). Friday came around and nothing. Called and they said they were backordered and it hadnt even shipped yet. Got home from work on Monday and Fedex had left a slip saying they tried to deliver. Went and picked it up and it was a Droid 1 with the 2.2 update and a flat keyboard (compared to my launch day droid that had the bumpy keyboard). A friend of mine went in for a warranty replacement late last week and he just got an email from verizon saying there is a shortage and they apologize and that he will be getting a Droid 2.

I was told the same yesterday. I got an email a few hours later saying my replacement was picked up by Fedex. Fingers crossed!

I had mine replaced last week for charging issues. They warranty replaces it with another D1. I asked before hand whether it would be new or refurb. She told me "Like new refurbished". I rolled my eyes on the way out the door. Much to my suprise, she wasn't lying. It was a "Like New" refurb. Hell, if she hadn't told me it was going to be a refurb, I might have never known it was.

P.S. Mine was on 2.1 when I received it. Immediately rooted, ROM'd, theme'd, and kernel'd. It's a fantastic phone.

I did a warranty replacement about 2 weeks ago. Got a D1 - like new refurb. It seems every bit as good as my old one (but better b/c it doesn't have the blown speaker my first one had). No complaints. Incidentally, my husband did a warranty replacement 3 weeks ago, followed immediately by an insurance replacement (after his warranty replacement had an unintended swim in our salt water pool). Both were D1s, like-new refurbs. The insurance was CellProtect, not Asurion.

I've heard of others experiencing delays in getting D1s or getting D2s instead, but we've gotten 3 D1s in the past month, no problems and right as promised. Maybe we just beat the rush...

I love how once news came out that some were receiving other devices (D2, DX, Di) for their D1 exchanges, all of a sudden a bunch of D1 owners start having "issues" with their device. You can almost hear the disappointment when they go to FedEx or something, open the box, only to find it's a D1 refurb.

For some this may be true. For a number of us though, we dread having our D1s replaced. There's something to be said for having an unlocked phone with Vanilla Android rather than something else with a specially designed overlay. If I were to have to warranty my phone again and they offered me anything other than the D1 -- or comparable dev phone if available -- I'd tell them to forget it and live with my gimped phone. Honestly, the only thing I dislike about the D1 is probably the keyboard.

A D2 or DX would be a nice suprise though a working D1 would be fine by me. I have read posts of people pulling keys off, breaking headphone jacks, etc and creating issues with the rumor or this. The rep I talked to today said they had over 25,000 in their warehouse (D1's that is.) It will be a PITA to unroot and reroot. The joke will be on the frauds when they get a D1 and were hoping for a 2. What do you do at that point...send it back and say, "Nevermind. Mine started working again."

Let me start by saying my headphone jack really has stopped working. So I went into a Verizon store today for a warranty claim but since i didn't buy the phone from them (friend sold it to me) I didn't have a warranty. Bummer. So I went on Assurion's site to file a claim (that's what Verizon told me to do) and their sites tells me it's a warranty issue and that I need to contact Verizon, haha. I said eff it, I can upgrade in November I'll buy a Droid X at that time and be done with it.

I actually put off taking my phone in for a bit because I didn't want the possibility of getting something other than the Droid 1 but the problems finally started bugging me enough to take it in.

lol well, im really happy with my d1. So many possibilities for this thing in the root matrix. no roms for d2 out so i would be stuck with that stupid custom moto launcher. I didnt want my power button to sink in until it was unusable, i really like the d1. I dont care what they send me as long as it works. Besides, you gotta admit, who would mind getting one of the newer devices for free? I know i wouldn't.

I called on Monday because my Droid's audio quit working. I can hear the caller but they can not hear me. My CPO showed up today and it was the Droid 1. It was a bigger piece of junk then mine. The key board was loose and slid open without any effort (I could tip it sideways and the keyboard would slide out) and the volume button was broken. I called to activate it and could barely hear the verizon message and when I toggled up to increase the volume nothing happened. I called Verizon and told them I was rejecting the phone and sent it back Fed-Ex today already. They are overnighting another one. I just don't under stand why we have to go through the pre-owned garbage. In my case my phone is only 45 days old. I bought a new phone and expected it to work. If I wanted a used phone I would of bought one :(

That's the reason I've held out for so long. To say I'm a bit nervous about this refurbished coming Friday is an understatement. We'll see how it goes and I'll report back. It's been picked up and ready to ship from FTW.

I just got my refurbished D1 today, after the keyboard literally peeled off my release day Droid. I hope it isn't a POS like some on here have gotten. Im gonna root and run it through its paces tonight. I'll let you all know tomorrow if I got a POS.

Update: I've had my replacement for a little over a week now. I guess I got lucky because it works like a champ. I wish I would have gotten a D2 though.

Yes let me know how yours is. I got a shipment confirmation from Verizon for my replacement showing it will be delivered tomorrow by 4:30p. I pray it is in better condition than todays :( I will let you know tomorrow.

Definitely interested in knowing the condition of yours. I too will update tomorrow when my second replacement comes.

I too needed to replace my Droid 1 due to static from the ear piece. I went into the vzw store last Friday and they were reluctant to do anything. They reminded me of beavis and butthead. Finally they agreed to ship me a refurbished certified like new unit. The unit had a slopply track for the screen. So sloppy it was crooked by a half inch when sliding it open. I called vzw and they overnighted me another refurbished phone. The second phone had another sloppy sliding track assembly and a clicking piece of plastic on the side which was annoying. I sent them both back to vzw with a note and still have my original phone with static out of the speaker at times. Both refurbished phones were made on August 26 and 27 2010 refurb dates.

Stupid question, how do you know the refurb date? Sadly I am already expecting to return the one tomorrow. I just don't see how a refurb phone can really be as good as new.

Wow, you're pretty presumptuous, aren't you?

I took mine to the store and they determined it needed to be replaced. I don't care whether I get a D1 or D2 (though I wouldn't really be happy with an X); I just want a phone that does what it's supposed to - connect to wifi when I want it to! The D1 they sent me didn't work, either, so it went back. Now I'm working with Motorola to see if they can unscrew it before going back to V for another replacement.

I'm perfectly content with my D1.

I agree, I need a phone that I can make calls from. D1, D2, whatever, just give me something that is fully functional :)

I had my original D1 replaced by verizon on 8/13. The earpiece stopped working and only way to use was speakerphone or bluetooth. Two days later I got a refurb D1 as soon as I turned it on it dl'd the 2.2 update. Phone was flawless until i used the camera. All pics came out blurry and pink. I went back to verizon on 8/30 and they sent me another one. It never arrived 2 day fedex so I called them last night and they told me there are no more D1's available and they are sending me a D2 with overnight shipping. Ill see today when fedex arrives.
