Phone not sleeping?

Recently I've been having poor battery life with my Droid Eris and downloaded Spare Parts to find out what was the cause of it. According to Spare Parts my phone is spending nearly 86% of the time without sleeping (Nearly 10h out of the 11 1/2h since my phone was unplugged)

I tried to find a possible app that was causing the problem but couldn't find anything unusual. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried restarting and doing a battery pull? Do you have the HTC weather widget open? They supposedly fixed that but depending on the version of ur firmware it might be there. I don't trust that anymore?

Hmm.. the other day the camera did that to my phone too and I restarted it and that solved it (used the camera afterwords and there was no problem).. But then again the phone hadn't been restarted for a couple weeks or so.

No, I haven't tried a restart or battery pull yet but I'll do that tonight. And the only weather widget I have is Fancy Widget. Maybe I should remove it and see if that is what isn't letting the phone sleep

Edit: I had my refresh interval to every 3 hours on Fancy Widget. Perhaps that is what is causing it?

I'd suggest that you go into menu > applications > running services and have a look at what's running in the background.

You can stop what you don't need running right there by clicking each service, however those stopped services will re-invoke the next time you power up your device unless you go to the app and reconfigure it or un-install it in menu > applications > manage applications.

There are some very persistent services and apps which can only be dealt with in a rooted device, but my guess is that you've not got one app configured to update too often, but perhaps two or more, such as syncing and weather and GPS and so on.

The Eris is run on a CPU with only 528Mhz and resources that are a bit anemic compared to many Android based devices; users often have to tweak around a bit to get them to become snappy and to have decent battery life, etc.

Root, is my primary piece of advice; it's a whole new world of controlling, configuring and optimizing the Eris (or any other Android phone). ;)
